18 or 20" would be 'ideal' but you could probably get away with a 24".

thanks, the reason i ask is because i have several of these saws all in excellent running condition and wanted to have one with a bar larger then 16-20 inch. thanks again.

It isn't going to be real happy with a 24", but it will probably pull it. Never gone over a 16 on mine, and it is very happy with it. When I get it deep in oak, it's about all it can really handle, and I've got to play with it a bit to keep it going.

I have a super xl that runs a 30" GB with skip 3/8 and she pulls it just fine.

States the longest "supplied" was 24".

Based on my experience with an XL I can't imagine going larger than 24 inch unless your using full skip.

16 would be ideal and 20 is OK if you need it.
