did you ever have one of those dream jobs that lands at your door step. last fall an excavation contractor called me up, he had a job to build a tennis court at a cottage nearby. told me a few maples were a little big for him to handle, and he didn't have time to do the trees, if we could cut them and skid out whatever we could use, leave the branches and stumps, he would clean all that up with the shovel. The pickets were spaced at 100 ft. by 200ft. surrounded by hydro lines on 2 sides aseptic field on 1 side and a cottage on the other. nothing could be felled without winching with the skidder, just to tall. I told the owner that I couldn't do the job for the wood only, so we agreed on $1500.00 extra to cover some climbing and rigging time. the 1st tree in the center was 28in on the stump and it was 68ft to the 1st branch, we had to top this one because it could reach something on all sides. the rest we were able to pull into the hole. we shipped a tandem load of huge logs, although the hearts were big so the price wasn't the greatest.we also drew home 4 tandem loads of 16ft. for firewood. also got a beatiful curly maple log and a grat spalted log that was laying on the ground, just finished sawing them up and stacking them in the barn, all and all what a sweet job

Sounds like a good deal as long as you didn't have to float the skidder to far. If you don't mind me asking what do you get for the big hearted maple there.

not really sure, on the exact price, I pocketed a $1000.00 roadside for it. so guessing nearly 3000 ft on the tandem, plus trucking was probably in the 4 to 500 a thousand range. wasn't really concerned on the price it was gravy money, and besides it was to big for firewood for my ol back. and no, sorry not picture friendly here. we only have dial up service here, takes about 7 minutes to host a picture to the web. I'm not that patient
