What makes Stihl's new Ultimate, or Mobil's 2t any better then Echo's cheep stuff?
There is nothing at all wrong with powerblend. It much better IMO than Stihl Orange bottle. I actually have a piston out of a 346 that was run about half its life on PB and it looks great.

I have run the Mobil syn with no mechanical problems at 40:1 but am currently running Klotz R50 syn at 50:1 which is also a very good oil. When my 660 was ported the builder let me know that there was quite a bit of build up in the muffler. I was running the Mobil at 40:1 at that time. He recommended I try the Klotz. Will pull the plug out after this gallon of mix is gone to see how it is burning. Both of these oils have a unique smell (smells good) when the saw is being run. I believe both oils are worthy products.

Jack, muffler build up with Stihl saws is fairly common if your carb tuning isnt spot on.
If you are having deposit problems with Mobil somehting is up as it is ther cleanest burning oil I have ever seen.

Than your not loading the saw enough to get it to run clean.
Inspect your muffler right now and see what it looks like.

Just a question here....If my saw spends alot of time idling in between cuts and what not.....I am at risk for more carbon build up?(makes sense)
Its not that big of a deal, just wondering.

At work,[water utility],We use Echo blend 50-1 In Stihl TS400 cutoff saws,Husky 371k Cutoff saws ,Husky chain saws,Shindiawa trimmers,Echo trimmers,Toro lawnmowers,And a Mikasa compactor. All of this with 87 octane pump gas.All run well, some of the cutoff saws are 5 years old and they get used in all types of conditions,We like Echo blend mix.

Thanks Ben , Keith !

The old dog and new trick idea is there, started running saws back when #30 waight at a cup to a gallon, or gas to the bottom of thumb-ring of a cider vinger jug, oil till it runs over, and shake like h311. Cider jugs were the best cause you could tell when it needs more shacking, #30 W always needed shacking!

There is a chance that your 660 was electronically on the lower end of the timing advance?

Been years since I been to Stihl school, but if there is a way for the electronics to pick up late, or otherwise delaying. timing , it would be a cooler running saw. Your builder may have caught it by advancing the timing as part of the build?

?

is it ok to use the same ratio for all saws -old and new-with the new syn oils if so what should it be ?
