hello, Ive searched and have read both ways. Im putting a duel port cover on my ms460 muffler and am opening the existing side exhaust.
Do I remove the inside baffle in my muffler or leave it in there? I dont want to sacrifice any reliability ( I'm just cutting firewood ) but want to have fun doing it. I have an inside baffle that looks like a ramp, it has no holes in it now.

I'd say bye bye to the baffle, re tune the carburetor to adjust for the increased ability for the saw to breathe, and be happy.

I have two 460's. Both still have the baffle, I cant see where the internal baffle hinders exhaust getting out of the muffler. I also cant see where taking it out would hurt anything either, probably make it a little louder. Just putting the DP cover on brought the rpm's up to 14,500. I added the cover when the saw was new.

I don't think the baffle makes much difference at all (other than making it quieter) - I'd just leave it, or, if you have the muffler off, drill a couple of big holes in the end. Add up the area of all the holes in the baffle; they are plenty big enough.

You should increase the hole (slot) in the new dual port front though - it's way to small on the 460. The 066 dual port muffler is fine though as it's "pre-epa".

I don't remember as it's been a while, and I don't have one in front of me... Figure on about 75-80% of the area of the cylinder muffler port, so subtract the existing hole then figure out the enlargement of the front cover slot. Then publish it all so we all have a future reference that can be searched on! It's easier to make it bigger later than to make smaller, so sneak up on it if you are unsure.

I posted the 066 sizes a while back.
