Whats the sad news.
Hope all is well, been a while.

The piston looks like a 268 with a popup, you could have put a standard piston back in it or had another popup like that one made.
Obviously this is an old thread.

Simon passed away this past weekend from cancer.

The piston was from a Jonsered 670.

I don't know. Maybe no difference. I never saw much of the 268's. I thought SawTroll said the 670's were the hottest running of the 266 series (not including 272s) but maybe that was how the cylinders were done and maybe they had the same pistons 268's and the 670's.

Very sad to here about Simon. How long ago was he diagnosed do you know?

There is a thread that was put up by his friend in "Off topic" sec. If you guys care to go over and pay some respect. I don't think it was noticed by people that knew him. Possibly it should have got moved to chainsaws?

Correct he used the 670 open skirt as pictured on page1. Apparently the 268 2 ring was used also. Possibly in the later years. I never tried a 268. I guess it is the XP 266 &268xp that have the windows and the SE doesn't. Three variations of the single ring. I have also used the 266 XP window. They
do well too. It is a bit heavier than the open skirt 670 I believe. Takes the heat well. Even a stock 670 is a good work horse to buck with from what I here. Pulls strong in the wood.

In honor of a fellow who modded a lot of true work saws, you should get a new popup in there and keep cutting! Really cool that this got pulled back up to memorialize him.
