I can't remember the name of the Proven AM pistons off hand. You guys know the brand. They were the copy of the 670. Simon wasn't big on the AM stuff but I did come across a thread on here shortly after I joined. His thread was in 2011 I believe after everything went Xtorq. He was selling dome AM open skirt 50mm.
That are a proven piston. Probably won't be able to by the 670... ect for much longer anyway.

Hey Dave.
Very sad to here about Simon. How long ago was he diagnosed do you know?

There is a thread that was put up by his friend in "Off topic" sec. If you guys care to go over and pay some respect. I don't think it was noticed by people that knew him. Possibly it should have got moved to chainsaws?
--------------
Correct he used the 670 open skirt as pictured on page1. Apparently the 268 2 ring was used also. Possibly in the later years. I never tried a 268. I guess it is the XP 266 &268xp that have the windows and the SE doesn't. Three variations of the single ring. I have also used the 266 XP window. They
do well too. It is a bit heavier than the open skirt 670 I believe. Takes the heat well. Even a stock 670 is a good work horse to buck with from what I here. Pulls strong in the wood.

If I remember right he was diagnosed in the fall. Esophagal cancer.

670 champs were always a nice saw when I had one to run.

Ok, so will open up the Simonized chainsaw thread.
There ya go. Good idea. I was looking on it a few days back and thinking the same as it was in play about 3-4 months ago but I missed it.. That was the thread that brought me to the site in 2014 Think I came in on p61 or 62 It was a zoo but I missed the best of it. Good time. I would find myself reading some of it from time to time over the years .So funny and painful stuff to read considering that was a 2011 thread and I believe he mentioned he had 1100 saws under his belt in BC at that time. I bought mine in spring 2007.

I always assumed that simonized meant ported but my untrained eye does not see any port work. Or does he just add pop ups?

I thought it was ported too but it's not at all you can still see the ridges in the ports.

Sounds like you were scamonized. Was the squish or base cut on this cylinder? Why not run a stock piston if the cylinder is stock?

Yes I thought it was ported but this saw was no scam it absolutely rips like no other. If a machined stock piston and base gasket delete runs like this I want more. Saw has triple port muffler, unlimited coil and I'm pretty sure I remember something done to the carb.
I will regurgitate what a
Long time Certified small engine Mechanic/saw builder and marine Mercury/Mariner certified mechanic said. (that I have known since we were kids)
When he first looked at the Simonized 372 he wasn't impressed. Once he fully understand what he was doing OR why he didn't need to do something then he changed his tune.

See if I can help clear the air for many people.
When Jonny realised it had a shorter piston skirt = a longer fueling duration then he could understand why he is not grinding the intake port really. He was going wide as possible with a devil's beard effect on each side to direct the fuel to the sides. The fuel gets pressed down and forced up so in theory then it is closest to the transfer ports. Then he said that was good he left the factory lip in there on the intake . He said he took a lot of meat out of the exhausts. I do remember that. Probably the most I have seen in a 372. I believe the inside was all out of the top.
With the single ring open skirt or the single ring window then you can get it to smooth out with the stock coil which is another advantage for cost & convenience on your own builds. Most 372 stock piston builds then I would need a black coil. Be a bit more conservative on the exhausts if you are line me and don't really know what you are doing and you will still get an amazing strong Pro runner saw.
