Do any of you guys have tech centers nearby? There is a high school level vocational center in the town where I live. They actually offer an urban forrestry program which isn't half bad. Do any of you guys ever recruit at these schools?

Sir Sanford Flemming in Lindsay Ontario is the local college that provides training. I believe their's is a 2 year program. They have a career day every winter which private companies & municipalities are invited, to watch the students climb & then meet & talk to the students after. Many students that demonstrate good climbing skills are offered jobs on the spot.

Unfortunately, the forestry program is in threat of being eliminated, and companies are upset as this is a primary source for new climbers. There is a big push in the industry in Southern Ontario to try to save the program.

We worked with the Ouachita Job Corps for a couple years. They're associated with ACRT to teach arborist skills to at-risk youth. We took kids for the school-to-work program. Out of the dozen or so we worked with, maybe one or two could be considered good. The best worker we got from the program decided she did not want to move here to work full-time.
