How about this bargain Stihl MS720

Looks pretty legit?

Some one will buy it and pay top dollar as well, would make a good rail mill powerhead.

I like the bit about the non chain brake,, experienced log cutters only hahahaha

Is it genuine stihl or a copy from china ????

Speeking second hand being different, i would never sell a race saw to anyone but a trained raceing competitor for the same reason, even with a chainbrake the performance mods and chain will open a large can of worms .

Well it looks like I am going ahead with exactly this. Darren was kind enough to give me some of his time for a chat last night and I'm sold on it again. I've contacted one of the builders on here and he's happy to help, just gotta wait a couple of days for price and away we go.

So... I need to ask what Aussie boys are doing for chains.... do you run US pitch/gauge or change sprocket to AUS spec?

I normally get power head only from over there and use 3/8 .063 chains and bars.
It will cost you extra to ship bar and chain over (not in box with saw) if you ask the bloke that is getting it for you get the shop to keep bar and chain and get a credit on them or take the price off the saw.
Use USPS to post.
Get the bloke to put a little bit of fuel in it (just so you can smell it) them on the paper work call it used chainsaw.
Make sure the value is under $1000 AU
Good luck
Cheers

The bloke I contacted is well known to you... wasn't sure if it was something I shouldn't be stating publicly. He has already asked if I want PHO, so that's probably what I'll do. I'll ask about your other shipping tips too - thanks.

I'll need to change the sprocket to run 3/8 .063 wont I?

Looking forward to this firewood season now. A mate and I are going to start selling wood as there seems to be a pretty good market for it around here. I better start to learn the different types of wood so I don't sound like a tool :jester:

A 3/8 sprocket on the clutch drum will fit all 3/8 chain sizes.

Sweet too easy. I guess I thought the pitch would be different.... not sure where/how I made that up...

Neil, what time on Saturday? I'll mossy down off the Plateau and rub elbows with the fast guys.

Bring the old turbo. I'll pull it apart and see if it is worth rebuilding. If it is, then you can purchase a rebuild kit and the next time you're in the area we can put it back together.

Terry, got the numbers for kendal, won't be a lot of competitors but the guys coming do have good gear so the unlimited speed events will be quick. Pitty rick couldn't come up for the day as well, he is a member and i could easily get him a run.
Will be a full program with speed, disc and post ripping and will be a good day.

Heres a sample of our O100cc unlimited speed final at Glenn Innes show and most hotsaws will be at kendal.

Anyone wondering what the green singlets are about, open post rip competitors totaly sponsered and asked to wear all day as part of sponsership package. Blue shirts are NSW and morone shirts are QLD competitors.

Looks like the weather is clearing up for the event, should be a good day. Yeah, too bad Rick couldn't make it, I would have liked to have met him. Interesting to put faces to various computer names.

I saw Gary at the shop and he apparently is no longer racing. In fact, he had completely forgotten about Kendal until I mentioned it to him. I'll be there sometime after 10:00am.

I will have the weekend off in the Melbourne area, anyone have any saw related suggestions?

I do plan to get down to Braeside to see Terry Titchner (Ace Saws) again.

Mark

Its gonna be hot n unpleasant any time after miday Sat 38c n Sunday 34c & building storms. Perhaps take your saws surfing down the peninsula coast

Gunnamatta

If CFA calls a Total fire ban you'll should not be using saws unless emg needs.

I heard another good one today. I went in to get a blood test and the young guy taking blood was as black as the ace of spades. African guy getting training and he was as nervous as hell. I don't reckon I've ever seen skin so black.
I mentioned this to a work collegue who said "So black that charcoal would leave a white mark on him". I pis*ed myself. Absolute cracker...
Anyway...

I visited Neil at Kendal today. The bloke was hot on the cross-cut events, but I'll let him tell you how the post splitting went. I couldn't stick around for the fast action in the afternoon, which was a shame as that is when the pipes are howling and the chips are flying.

One thing you notice as you walk through the 'pits' is that all the saws look like worn out pieces of c--p. That is, until you take a close look at the attention to detail of the chains.

I spent some time looking at chains and had Neil take a look at one of my chains to see if he had any recommendations and he pointed out a few things. I have two chains that are identical and I'm going to incorporate his mods on one chain and keep the other chain as a base-line for the mods. It is only a work chain that I'm modding, but I'll see if I can do a few little tricks to a new chain that will improve its cutting ability over its working life.

Thanks mate, and yes that was i running the 3120.
I picked up the same event today at kendal in very furm 14 inch blue gum against basicly the same hotsaws minus the QLD boys as this event was just a club day.

Terry,
it was a pleasure to meet you and for you to spend some time in our ring. You missed some good speed and disc stacking and all the post billets were tuff.
I finished up with the overall points (19 )for the day with 4 wins, 1 2nd and 1 3rd and 1 4th in the open post over 2 billets (combined times) next was bill rumbel with 13 points, he was the winner of the open post rip.
Also thankyou for the bottled gift, hahah i bet will go down well up at work on a cold night.

Lumberjac au,
thanks mate, and yes today was a very good hitout for me, the speed blocks were all hard grown blue gum and sorted out some chains, the post billets were again big and ugly white mahogony. Both my 8 and 9 post billets were very hard sawing and harder wedgeing and was a tuff days ripping for us.
