Just a quick one guys from a customer in Adelaide who emailed me this today after seeing it last week. Morons like this really should be banned but alas. His email quoted below...

"I just thought I’d send you these 2 pics; I stumbled across these idiots removing a spotted gum at Vale Park on Friday. They had removed the canopy before I got there & there was no signage out to say who was doing it. They lifted the trunk intact with a crane onto a flat bed semi, so I'm guessing that they sold it for milling.

The thing is that they didn't put any signs, witches hats, or traffic control out! There were cars driving past as the trunk was swinging around in the air! The blue car in the pic was actually driving past as the tree was swinging away across the road as the crane driver moved along the road. Can’t really blame the car driver, as there was nobody telling them of the danger ahead!

There was also a very tense moment when the butt hit the ground & the trunk rolled in the chain sling! I bet the crane driver needed to change his pants!

These guys didn’t give a 2nd thought to anyone else’s safety & wellbeing, they sh*t me!"

What times those were, at least we had sense enough to avoid the "sliced" banana drinks.

Good times Randy, good times.

Don't you guys sleep?
In Bangkok I had a balloon shot out of my hands from 25 feet. My God what stomach muscles!

Al.

Quite the athletes those ladies...

I emailed Safework SA last night :) They are like Hitler when they get on a case. They are the reason why local fruit tree pruning contractors here had to get accreditation to fell trees over 6m in height. Safework SA was planning on taking them to court until they did as some of the almond limbs they were pruning exceeded 6m in height. They were all over them like a fly on a turd.

that whole caper is very bad for sure, how we never saw that on the evening news with a fatality is a mirracle, i can't realy understand why they needed to move it down the road to start with, why would you not walk the truck to the log or at least close as possable.

My only explanation Neil is that they are somewhat deficient in the realms of IQ.

its a viciuos cycle. Guys cut corners to reduce costs. The price lower to win more jobs....those prices become the norm. WOrk conditions and living conditions go down....quality of retail products go down to still get them out there....no one gives a #### about anything anymore.

nice work by the crane driver...those overheads are completely safe to work around with a big metal boom :bang:

Spotter????????

How much oil and how many km on he new donk ?

Do a flush before you remove the old box.

Put the front end up on chassis stands with the wheels off the deck.
Remove the return line, jam a piece of pipe in it (3/8" or 1/2" ?? I can't recall) and point that at a big catch container on the floor.
Cap the return on the bottom of the reservoir, have some fresh fluid handy and someone to pour it in.

Start engine and start pouring fluid through, jump out and push the wheels from full lock to full lock, pausing at full lock for a second or so, then shut down when 4 litres have gone through.

Rip the old box out and instal the new one.

Remember the box has a bleed nipple on the top cover to bleed air out too when you fit the newbie.

I really like Transmax Z for PS systems that spec an ATF, but a good lightweight MTF like Redline MTF or lighter could be even better.

FWIW late model Falcons use a lightweight MTF for the rack/PS system.

Flush with a cheap PSF???

You're exactly right mate. It is a common theme amongst qualified arborists working in cities. There are never ending tales of woe where guys claiming to be arborists cut the arse out of the price, come and do the work, some of it quite risky, and it is only when something goes wrong that the property owner finds out they are not qualified or even insured. There are a lot of cowboys in every industry at the moment and the problem is getting worse as dollars get tighter.
The other issue is actually with arborists themselves and this is straight from qualified guys running tree felling businesses. They'll employ a guy, spend money to get them qualified, then two seconds after they are qualified they leave, start up their own business, then cut prices to get work. They also quite often cut corners as they don't have the money to buy the proper equipment to handle larger jobs. Vicious cycle as you said Serg. The building industry is exactly the same.
