Well, it has officially happened.
My "three saw plan" has finally come to fruition.
It all started about six months ago when I decided I really needed to invest in a saw for when I go camping and some light firewood use. Enter my MS441-R. Made on July of '08 (according to the E.P.A. tag), and seen very little use. I picked it up on C.L. for a whopping $450 w/ a 20" bar (since upgraded to the 24"). Well, after a few months of use, the wife decided she was tired of standing around and she now wants a saw to help out. Enter saw #2. The very lightly used 026 w/ 18" bar (unknown date, no label). Owned by a little elderly lady and used for about a season before she was tired and started buying cord wood. Again, another C.L. find for $175. O.K., I'm thinking we're all good. That is until I went to my first GTG and not only ran some bigger saws, but also met another A.S. member who allowed me to run his 066 a few times. Great, now I suddenly have a really serious need (i.e. hardcore WANT) for a 90cc wood hog. Along comes the last member of "My Three Amigo's". An MS660-R w/ duel port cover and 32" bar, made in August '07 (again, E.P.A. label). A little more used than my other two saws, but nothing that a little paint, or even just a few pieces of new plastic wouldn't fix. However, you wouldn't know it had ever been used my looking at the P/C, the compression (160p.s.i.), or the feel of it running. You guessed it, another C.L. find. This one, was however, the most expensive buy of the bunch. I had to drop $520 for this bad boy.
So, there you have it. The story of the terrific three. It will eventually become four, but the 090 or MS880 just hasn't presented itself, yet.
So without further ado, the proof.
I threw in an extra pic to show the little invention I came up with for the woodsman case the wife's 026 lives in. I was trying to find a good way to keep some extra parts in case this was the grab-n-go saw for overnight camping trips. A trip to the store resulted in a $0.75 plastic pencil pouch, and a small package of three Velcro strips for $2.75. Throw the hook parts of the Velcro in the case where I could get them to fit. Next, put the other sides (the softer "loop" side) of the Velcro on the first sides. Remove the backing strips to expose the adhesive, and press the pencil pouch into place. That's about it. The pouch has more room for stuff if I want to throw it in there, it clears the handle of the saw with plenty of room to spare, and yet it's still easy to remove when I need something.
Now for the bad (can't be all good, right). The MS660 had the decomp valve removed and plugged. That was quickly fixed. However, I didn't notice that it also was in dire need of a new Elasto-Start handle-rope set. Not a huge deal, but my local dealer wants $55 for one. I thought this was a bit way to high. Therefore, I'm just wondering if somebody has a NIB set for an MS660 they are wanting to get rid of. If so, feel free to P.M. and let me know. I know my arm and hands would appreciate it.
