I was invited recently by the OKIG, german chainsaw collectors community, to attend one of their collector meetings. Having never done so before, I decided to give it a try, loaded 3 of my saws in the trunk, and headed for a 3 hour drive to attend the two days event in Salzkotten, a tiny village in the middle of Germany.

We were lucky with the weather, and had a great time. Met a bunch of cool people from Holland, Germany (and one little belgian, hehe) with all one common passion : chainsaws ...

Just wanted to share some pics with you of the meeting, and some nice equipment I have seen for the first time in real. Just one warning : Germany is home country of Dolmar and Stihl, and it shows.... sorry to the husky and jonsered fans

the line up !

Great pics

Great pics there Brother Belgian. I can't help but notice how big some of those saws are. Place looks manicured as well. Is everything in Germany that well kept??

Reminds me too seeing how big some of those saws are if Sawtroll had to use one would he still feel the 441 is too heavy,LOLOL

(messing with you SawTroll, gotta have some holiday fun ya know)

Nice thread Belgain although I see you stole one of my lines but I'll be "cool" about it,LOL

Looks like it was a good time Roland. Great pics too. Do you have any more ?

All of us were making private pics and we agreed to sent them to one member of the OKIG, who was going to issue a CD rom to be sent to all the attendees.

There was a retired Stihl employee who was kind of official photographer and made a lot of pics. Can't wait to see those !!! Also had a great time talking to this man, as he'd been in the research department for a long time. You could hear he was stihl proud of those saws and da company, a lil biased one could say, like you was talking to Lake or Thall, ...LOL.

We also had several US made saws there (front row).

great thread Belgain, did you have your two man saw there??? is it in the pics and if so,,,, which one is it????

I have only one two men saw, an electrical stihl EG, but it was too bulky to take into the car (my wife complained... ), but I admits it would have been a nice one to have there...

Here's a pic of mine ..

Note to Sawtroll : this baby weighs about 100 pounds, so don't complain ever about the 441 again, ya hears....;)

NSU ural

The huge two man saw in the front was a NSU Ural, made by the germans before the war, and belonged to a dutch collector. After some priming and a 5 min pulling, da beast came to life and roared like a WWII bomber.

His hands were bleeding because of the heavy pulling and we whispered slowly : no wonder why the germans lost the war :taped: :taped:

Great pics! Is that your SP105 in the second row?

you have a keen eye TZ : it was indeed one of my SP105. I was tempted to cut some wood with it, but I didn't want to make the Stihl guys look bad, Hmmmm. I regret it now.

I brought one Mac SP105, one Danarm 1-70SS and a AS5 Super to the event.

Now dear Sir, I just want to make a single side note to that statement (Woody and Manual will love this...).

The Stihl employee mentioned to me that Stihl only considered one single brand as real competition from them in the professional logging industry throughout history, and that was 'Husqvarna'. Stihl considered themselves N° one for durability, but they always have been a little jealous about the "accelaration" performance of the Husky saws. Comin from a diehard Stihl man, that really meant something, I think.

I wish we had events like that around here. Their should have been more old sand cast Poulans there. They have a look and sound of their own.

Looks like chainsaw heaven to me. That big black brute looks pretty. I like your electric saw too! I have never seen an old electric until recently they are very interesting. I suppose they had large generators to power all of the men's saws. I can just imagine how many cords they needed.
