As I read the posts here on AS I see alot of debate about how makes a better saw Stihl, Husky, Dolmar, Echo ..... It all comes down to the local dealer. It is because of my local dealer that I have almost all Stihl saws, one Echo top handle slipped in.
All my saws have been bought at the local dealer. I can't get a top handle echo at home depot. I can't get a saw with over 55cc's at a box store. If my saw doesn't start when I get it home all they can do is exchange it. If I need advise, I better have brought a buddy cause Bob in the outdoor power equipment section is still trying to find the starter handle. Go into lowes and ask to see their felling wedge selection. They might have one there.
I bought a Stihl 250 the other day, it had a faulty carb would not stay running. Dealer didn't stock the carb. So he took one off the display saw to get me up and running. Have that happen to the husky that you bought at the box store, they have one on display but you can't buy it, nor can you get the part that you need off of it. Nothing against husky, but I can't find a dealer for them. I wonder if selling thru box stores put the little guy out? The little guy that looks out for me when my saw will not stay runnin.
It comes down to this, support the local guy that gives you service, or learn to live without it. Cause without your help the little guy will be forced to shut his doors. I think that this applies to everyone from the occasional homeowner to the professional logger / arborist. Just my $.02

Nice post!

I own Stihl because of the same reasons. I go where the service is.

My local dealer sells husky, stihl, echo, snapper, toro, simplicity, and they are very helpful. I go there for everything: saws, mowers, trimmers, my snowblower, I agree - The service I get is worth more than a brand name.

To the best of my knowledge the Tractor Supply up here hasn't sold any saws.....and they do not know who does their service (I asked)....they mumble something about mailing it to a service center??

Their prices on everything are extremely easy to beat fo all the locals.....and their hardware is an absolute Chinese junk pile

I know. I have yet to get to see a good husky in person. There is a dolmar dealer closer than a husky one. There are actualy more dolmar dealers listed in iowa than husky. I doubt many of them even stock a saw but still.

I worked for a far supply store chain that was a stihl dealer. They also had to send off their saws for service. They carried husky also but I don't remeber what they were like or cared at that time. I just know that putting the bar and chain on is a pain in the butt.

I agree 100% if you have quality dealers in your area. I will pay more for saws and parts if I feel I am getting a service that can't be had elsewhere. I will pay more if I can go into the shop and talk with the mechanics about problems over a cup of coffee. I will pay more if I can shoot the breeze with the guy at the counter when I am in for a fuel filter, starter rope and spark plug, WHICH THEY HAVE IN STOCK! I will pay more to have them "take care of me" and know I will be back the next time I need something. I personally have learned to live without "it" as ALL of my local (within 30 miles) dealers are arogant, carry no stock and have lengthy delays / mess up my orders when I order parts, and charge a premium price on EVERYTHING froms saws to parts. The only dealer I have found that is worth a damn is a Stihl dealer 60+ miles from me. We have developed a good relationship and he mails me my parts! I gave up on the rest of the guys. The sponsors on this forum can offer me MORE than my local dealers!

i live in CT and i found a great husky dealer in PA.
