how much is this saw, anyway ??
[/quote]

I started the bidding at $300 a few pages back when it hit the Trading Post :)

I don't have a problem with Moody, nor do I know what is all going on behind the scenes. My problem is his excuse in chain. The last couple videos (not just this saw either), he has talked about his "chain".

If you can't take 5 minutes to file that "Old work chain", then why even make a video that doesn't show the saws potential? Anyone can rev a saw up. If you wanna build a "Build thread" then at least take some time and have a little set up. Just going at it Willy Nilly ain't gonna get you any good marks.

Have a respectable piece of non yard wood and a good chain (even if it's off the roll). I don't build saws. But if I did, I would take every preventative measure to ensure that the saws cut as good as possible .

I think what he meant with all the chain talk was that it isn't going to be the same baseline to go of off once the nail was struck because in the original baseline videos the chain was new. Thus, filling it would make it different.. But... I agree with you Dexter... It really isn't all that difficult to throw a new edge on a chain after it's been rocked, his statements had me quite confused as it seemed like it could be easily remedied.. Also, even after being rocked, if filled correctly it can definitely be better than off the roll/out of the box & in doing so would only make his work look even better. But hey, filling is somewhat of an art, not everyone knows how to do it.. just saying, not taking a public shot at him..

Regardless of everyone's opinion in this daytime drama, I'd really like to see this thing completed & running. If completed like most other build threads with pics of the work & videos, I think he might have somewhat of a redemption & reverse the looming consensus, especially if he ran the death match I've been psycho babbling about.

Wow.

So, now it's all the other saw builders who are scared of Moody stealing their business? That's the reason he wasn't sending parts as promised and hasn't paid his dues? Holy ****, dude, do you really expect anybody to believe that line of ********?

The excuses aren't helping his case, the sooner he realizes that, the better off he'll be.

I dont know of any experienced builder that is particularly scared of a little new competition... if they are indeed presented with "Competition". If a builder doesnt communicate, and doesnt follow thru on their end.... any "hope" of them ever becoming "competition" in the future will never reach fruition. "It takes a lifetime to build a good name and a second to destroy it". Someone else said it, "Once something has been seen, how can it be unseen?"

On my saws, Ive spent right at $5000 on port work with Randy in two years. I picked him after following threads (in total silence for an entire year) bc of his work, his character, and his reputation. It's worked out well for both of us. He know's he gets any saw I buy and I know I dont have to worry about anything except getting the saws to him.

If a builder destroys his own reputation by "action" or "lack of action" then no one is to blame but himself.

Right. But he has used the excuse before.

Had he "Hand sharpened" that chain and hit a nail. Then he could hand sharpen it again and yield the same results. I sharpen the same every time.

I want to see the saws side by side as well. I know my bone stock 362C revs like mad and cuts better than an OE. But chain is the name of the game. A "old work chain" on the 562xp and nice sharp chain on a 362C will show nothing.... Playing ground needs to be equal.

Right on.. I thought it was out of the box.. Either way.. What you say is true..

I don't know about the rest of you, but I have faith in moody. I think he is a good honest young man. I think with a little experience he will do very well.

he was looking for a new cylinder so he could start over to show his gains the right way. I think i'll send him a new in the box 362cm to use as a base line.
and I might as well send him $250.00 to port it when ever he has time, 1 year, 2 years, I really don't care how long it takes. he has more important customers to take care of first. and I would not be afraid to give him a loan of $1000.00 or more if he needs it.
like I said I have faith in him, and he is a good kid that needs a little understanding and guidance to be successful. just like the rest of us needed when we were young

Nicely said Scott!!

Im sorry to hear about the saws and P/C of members here that Moody has had longer than expected. With that said I dont think the kid needs to be hung for it!! Come on guys we are all human... therefor not perfect.
He has had a P/C of mine (part of raising money for Terry and Anne) for a few weeks now, several times he has touched bases with me (We have had a few nice conversations on the phone....I to have faith in Moody) and I keep telling him no rush at all I wont be able to put it on for a while im buried myself!
One more thing. Every time I have messaged Moody he responds right back. When all of this came to a head over the weekend guess where he was? A charity cut helping out. Not babysitting his darn phone... Im sure we can all understand that!

Lol, true, but you're a "tool"

If I can find time to meet up with Moody today he will return the ms362cm and my 562xp. I heard some really great reviews about it from people who used it at the charity cut.

The last thing I want to do is to spend the time to find a good log, in a good setting, and to make equal chains and to get everything perfect so that I won't have to worry about a pile of A.S. members jumping on me for all the mistakes I make while trying to present the performance of some awesome saws that I understand that most people cant put side by side in a cut on the average day.

I have a stock 562xp, ported 562xp, and ported 362cm. My brother has a non mtronic ms362 that has been ported by moody... I would love to have an awesome video to show everyone, but it takes a lot of preparation and I just don't have the time right now to do all of that.

Every video I have ever made has sucked, so I appreciate the work put in by others who present videos for us on Youtube or A.S., and since most of my videos are too embarrassing to post I am understanding when people make mistakes in the videos that they post.

I hope everyone realizes that porting saws full time is not an easy gig.

The whole deal, selling yourself, the work, the shipping, dealing with customers, issues, complaints, criticisms......

Just do your very best Justin, be up front and honest, and never be afraid to tell people what is really going on.

Well said Randy, like I posted in the other thread that was deleted, I want to send Moody a saw to help out a young kid get off the ground but no one likes getting screwed or dealing with shenanagins. He'll land on his feet.

Hmmmm. An interesting thread. I had the opportunity to meet Moody at the Charity Cut in Mansfield and run the aforementioned 362. Moody didn't seem arrogant and didn't pretend that he had all the answers to all things 2-stroke. Opinionated? Yes. Mouthy? A little, but not so much when you consider he's young and getting started. I used to be young and am still quite opinionated. We didn't agree on everything but didn't get in a shouting match either.

What I saw was a young man trying to do something he enjoys and make some money while doing it. On top of that, he spent at least an entire day helping out with a cut for charity. I didn't leave until 5 or 5:30 and I'm pretty sure he was still there when I headed out. He seemed alright to me.

Now, the saw. I ran another of his saws and told him I wasn't crazy about it. There wasn't anything wrong with it, it just wasn't my cup of tea. He asked what I didn't like and why. He asked for feedback and suggestions on what I would want in a work saw. I told him and he listened. He didn't offer excuses and said he would think about what I said. He then asked me to run the 362. That saw was a different animal. Whatever he did inside there worked quite well. The saw started nicely, spooled up quick and made good power. It wasn't easy to bog down and was cutting so well I was watching it churn through the oak and didn't notice I lined the chain up with the steel log support. I thrashed his chain. I was bearing down hard, trying to make it bog down when I hit steel. The chain looked horrible. Probably not completely ruined but it was going to take some serious work to get it sharp again.

Up until I thrashed the chain I was quite impressed with the saw. I told Moody I ruined the chain and he said "How did the saw run?" I said, "I just toasted your chain. I don't have one to replace it." He said, "It was a Stihl chain, too. What did you think of the saw? Did it cut well?" He wasn't worried about the chain, just wanted some feedback on the saw. I told him not to change a thing, it ran great. Like I said, he seemed alright to me.

That's the thing about these situations. One accusation is made and then a bunch of people with no dog in the fight (and who have no business being involved) jump in with heresy, speculation, and innuendo. Pretty soon, that's what the forum becomes a vehicle for.
