Hi there friends, I forgot to mention that when I was in Kamchatka USSR, I had to hand fall some pretty wicked Spruce.
Anyway, handfalling is fun, and you love when supper comes along with that first beer of the day.

Speakin' o' self sharpening, back in '72-75, before i wuz a reeel tree tramp, the landscape company I worked for had a couple electric saws. One had that self sharpening chain with the sharpenable edge on top......Boy was it rough cutting, kinda like that axe.......

.....like the bailing wire touch though...

I reckon accuracy is not one of gyro's finer developed skills....

...maybe the house wench will concur...........

"What's that running down my leg?"......

"That is the shot that missed the slot", said Barnacle Bill the sailor man

Uh Oh

John,
Does the wire serve any aerodynamic purpose or is it just there for looks? Looks like that axe has a few stories to tell.

Gypo, did you get that one from the Museum of Natural History?
Looks like a real artifact.

Hi 084, it was kinda neat, I got that ole axe from a good friend of mine who past away at 82. He was in the war and spent most of his time in a submarine in his younger days. He was a farmer in his adult years and I became friends with him when I firewooded his woodlot in 1990.
Anyway, I miss all the ole timers that have contributed so much to our lives. So they live on.

Hi Gypo, very sorry to hear about your friend. Cool though how he left you something as interesting as that axe to remember him by:)

The Ole Axe

John,The next time you head out to hand fall with that axe,I would recommend something stronger than beer(ruiski 190 proof vodka)and dont wait til supper.Mater o fact,I"d hit the juice long and hard fore I ever swung the first lick!I too am sorry about your old friend passing. In my opion,I can't dream of accomplishing what the ol timers did, especially with the tools(or lack of)they worked with. When I think about it,We have easy compared to those before us.Mikey
