I'm sorry for reposting this recent topic, but I just can't keep my pants on. I've done my research, and more research and even more, and for lighter weight saw with plenty of power, agility, and capability (to pull a 3/8 chain) in the 50cc range, (while still being around $400-ish), I was just about ready to purchase a brand new Dolmar 5100s, .....that is until I noticed this saw that Manuel had posted picks of a few pages back.

The all new Husky 346 (or higher number)xp with a larger displacement engine.

Possibly around a pound lighter than the highly acclaimed Dolmar 5100, with the same power, same insane 14,500 rpm/s and get this one,......AN ACTUAL DEALER SUPPORT BASE!! novel idea huh!

I know this topic was recently posted with an incredible amount of replies, however, NO information was disclosed about a possible release date into the U.S.

If anyone has any info on this potential "dream saw", please speak up!. I am tired of waking up every morning with drool on my pillow just dreaming about it!.:D

I really want it!

btw, could this be the new Dolmar killer?

It looks like an orange Jonsered
Same color gas and oil caps, same style cap snaps, same placement and location of engine decompression easy start button , same choke and shut off set up , same bar chain tension adjustment --- save yourself some time don't wait and just get a Jonsered.

And I agree they are great saws.

Yes, sort of, except that it is the other way around - Husky makes all of todays Jonsered saws, except for the two cheepest ones - but there is not a Jonsered version of every Husky saw.....

A good candidate, at 3,7hp/2.7kW (slightly shy of the 5100S), but I suspect the weight will be a bit closer also - but it will still be a more compact design, at the "cost" of an outboard clutch....

Buy it from a Servicing Dealer........If the chain brake gets locked on you cant get the side cover off.......Box store's might not help you... ;) ;)

.

That first pic looks like some sort of air gun/pump/grease gun attachment.

Must be to engage the chainbreak if the user's grip is released.

Mr. SH,
I think if something were to happen to my 026, I would very likely give the 346 a try.

:ices_rofl: I hardly believe that model will be found at the box stores.

Anyway, make sure that the chain break is off, before taking the clutch cover off - learned that the hard way on my 353 - took an hour or so, and a few beers to fix it....... :censored:

SAwTroll:

I am a fairly, (okay, totally) new member here, however, spending many many hours researching past threads/posts/replies, I have determined that you are a very knowledgable and respected member who seems to be "in the know" about current saws and upcoming models.

I know you hate me, (ot at least stated that you don't like me), but please give me a chance. YES, I am a troll!, but I am a GOOD troll!. You see, I don't cause harm or trouble and the only reason that I am considerred a troll is because I occasionally moonlight as a garden gnome model for extra cash.

anyway, back to the topic. I went to the Stihl dealer yesterday and tried out a new ms361, however it had a 25'' bar on it. To me, the 25'' bar felt WAY out of balance and I did not like it at all.

The reason for the long bar was that it was for the forrest service thinning crew and they get tired of bending over all the time (hence the long bar).

I think many new members are given a bit of "overkill" advice on what saw to buy as the reommended saws may not be compatible with their occasional use or size of trees they cut. This also includes firewood.

I want a compatible saw for my needs, and I'm sure a LOT of newbies or occasional users are in the same boat.

I want the following:
.Powerful, but not overkill....50cc-ish
.Light weight to not cause fatigue...(under 12 lbs), more like 10-11-ish.
.Compatible in size to cut 90% of trees/firewood in my area... (up to 14'' max).
.Around $400. "Pro" saws are for "pro's". unless you literally put thousands of hours per year on a saw, why pay the $600+ price when a $400 saw will work out just as good, or better?.

As mentioned, all of my criteria can be met with the Dolmar 5100; everything other than NO DEALER SUPPORT!!.

If this new Husky 346xp (or whatever it will be called), will be similar to the 5100, but have a strong dealer network, it will be a no-brainer for me and probably a lot more members.

So, the $399.00 question for you Mr. SawTroll is do you have any info on this new-more powerful husky model to share?. I am *literally* waiting with bad,..I mean baited breath to get some info on this new saw.

Anything you know would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

My dealer showed me how to do it on my old 359...there was nothing to it.

But the fact is that Husky is copying features found on the Jonsered.

This can only make Husky's a better saw as Jonsereds rock.

More like, they are making ALL THEIR PRODUCTS to have the same features.

Unless of course, you can explain how you copy design features from a product you make, to put on another product you make... thats completely identical sans the plastic dress.

I don't know about that funky break and the cat muffler. If the 5100s is so good, I wouldn't think you would need much in the way of dealer support, other than to set the RPM for your altitude after break in. You could buy a tach, too for that! My 026 has never been in the shop after this initial tune in 12 years! It sure could be easy to just go to one of our fine sponsors and order it up! I do like having a good husky/stihl combo dealer nearby for parts, but they don't sell the 357. I find myself doing lots more ripping cuts than I anticipated because the 026 was never happy about ripping, and now have a bad elbow making it impossible to split all of the rounds I used to with a maul.
On second thought, just have your dealer put an 18" or 20" on the 361 to perfect the balance. That does cost more than $400 though, they are $600 plus 8.25 sales tax around these parts. The husky only cost me $7 on account of some special logic and credit card cash rebates:givebeer:

On third thought, I sure wouldn't mind a new 346xp in it's current form without the cat muffler! There is your $400 even too.
Prolly too small for an all around do it all saw though.

If this is going to be the one all around saw though, I think you would like having the 361, if you can afford it.

Have you put an MS260 in your hands yet??? I'm curious as to how it feels to you because it seems to meet all of your criteria. The existing 346 is just fine as well...

That is definitely a pretty machine.... I'll admit to liking the old stuff, though, and that little green gas cap (which I assume means a catalytic muffler) makes me nervous. They don't dissipate heat well and they restrict air flow. I have "de-e-teched" a saw before and been astounded at the improvement in performance. Having said that, maybe they've improved the systems and I'm full of it. You've found a great brand, a great model, maybe just see if they sell the same saw without the catalytic muffler.

I am pretty sure that the E-tech will be an option, not mandatory, but it remains to see what they actually offer on the different markets......
