I know one of these plugs on the top cover is a decomp valve, what is the other ?

Ordered that piece and the brake guard . Muffler needs some prying, the front is somewhat crushed

Popped the muffler off last night and the piston and cylinder looked great. Put fresh red armour 50-1 mix in and got it to fire up.

For the deep clean, should I make a little bolt on cover for the port opening so I can blast it without the muffler on? I’m assuming duct tape won’t stay. Was thinking a little sheet of plastic cutting board, or wood

Glad to hear it runs and P/C looks good. When you get it tore down for cleaning check if P/C is OEM Stihl, KS or Mahle.

You can make block offs for the muffler and carb from inner tubes, just bolt the parts back on over the rubber. I'll use air to knock off the loose material and stuff you've scraped loose before using diesel and brushes. I'm not a fan of pressure washers on a saw unless it's getting stripped to bare cases.

Is it possible to convert it to 3/8 picco? If the current bar is kept what is you favorite Stihl semi chisel ?

If the bar is 16" 0.325 keep it. Once you have the saw running you can clean/true the rails, check the drive sprocket and clutch drum bearing, and think about new chains, 26PM or 26RS.

During clean up pull the clutch housing cover and clutch, clean up behind clutch and oil pump area. Clutch is left hand thread. Do this and remove flywheel before taking off cylinder, if you choose to do so.

Threads fit the stud in the cylinder, that holds the cover. Note Stihl logo and 1121 (024/026 series) cast into cyl, there is also markings cast in at the cylinder base on the sides.

This is was a filthy, but good running $95 CL 026. It cleaned up well and just needed the bar dressed, new rim, and chain.

Muffler mod done, shroud and other cover cleanings done, half way clean elsewhere. Can I just go buck wild in all the nooks and crannies with the simple green spray? I’ve never had any power equipment get to this level of crud. Photos are post flathead and puck cleaning with some air comp blasting.

Excited to fire up tomorrow and get some jets tuned. Won’t be able to do the High until I get the sprocket and chain

put a pc of innertube under the plastic plate. take the carb off and do the same.

I agree to some extent, but there is a legitimate reason to do it on some modern saws in the EPA era. The MS260 is a good example. It is a pig with the stock EPA compliant pencil sized exhaust hole and limited carb.

I use a .325"x8 rim on my 026 saws, which about is the same diameter as a .375"x7 rim.
The Stihl RS .325 chains are full chisel and work well on my saws.

Snagged the chain today, rim sprocket is on order, along with OEM air filter. Was surprised they could get one

Can I run it well enough to properly tune with a worn rim sprocket?

How bad is the used bar/chain/rim? Dress the bar, sharpen the chain, and tune it in a full cut

The used rim will wear the new chain quickly.

As mentioned an 8T 0.325 rim might be a better match unless you are in full cuts and hardwood. 7T will be harder to bog in full cuts.

I do almost exclusively bucking, I have a few elm logs to tune in as well as a pecan trunk that was dropped at work yesterday. I’ll have to snag a photo of the rim. Bar is brand new. Was worth a 1/3 of what I paid for the saw.

First time in wood, easy to bury the short 16” bar. But she’s got some pep. How’s the sound? Fattened some when I felt like it was bogging pre video

- is it missing an outside felling dog? I see the holes, does a second dog help with bucking?

- I run quickeen fuel system treatment in all my other small engines and my outboard. Does red armour oil have similar properties? Can I toss a splash in it?

- what do I look for with the anti vibe to see if it needs replacing?

STOVE. I see your questions and think that you probably could just dive in and take it apart and see what happens. That's how I learn anyway. Sometimes I plant a cellphone camera tripod to film my disassemblies so I know how they go back together. I use Echo 2-stroke oil exclusively. Two dogs might be overkill; they both do the very same thing
