I've met Mike so i know he knows what he's talking about.

I've heard Daniel rave about John, so i know he knows what's going on.

Ain't nothing but a thing.

I do not think anyone in this biz has not looked at a tree and thought is this the one at one time or another. I know I have. Experience, knowing what could happen all play a big part in how I go at a job. I think its being aware of the 'what ifs' before strapping on the gear separates many from the 'how did that happen' crowd. The climber that attacks a tree just because its there and no one else will do it is in for a surprise eventually. I hate surprises but know they are a part of biz and try to anticipate the 'what ifs'. Glad to hear that job went well and from reading posts I do not think that climber was going to be on that job if he did not know he could do it. See below;)

I think MM's post about guying could save someone's life... probably not Big Jon's though... Guying is a good practice to develop and makes you feel a little more confident in the tree...
And MM's rule of peeling bark sounds very reasonable..
Because Jon was tied into another tree, the whole equation changed..
Jon,
Did you lanyard into the oak or work off a single tie in?

I like the way of thinking that "this could be the one"... the truth is they all could pretty much be the one and when we approach a tree with that sort of respect its much less likely for a brain fart to occur...

Stay safe.... ( I need ya)

Yeah I did have to lanyard into the spar. The lanyard was the only thing that kept me on the log. It pretty rotted and it difficult to find a hard spot. As for dying at 26 I took an online survey that estimates how long you will live and everyone averages in the 70s. I don't smoke, drink ect but it predicted 26. Maybe cause I climb trees and fly airplanes who knows.

Suicidal no. I have too much to look forward to. I'd like at least see if my horse ever makes 15 hands and see my kids grow up.

you mean one of those canvas coats with buckles in the back? I don't have a link to that site. I was like 24 or 25 at the time and I am over the hill at 30 now.

I think I am just wondering if I am old or not. Haven't figured it out yet. My fiance is 23 and I have more energy than she does. She does work harder than I do 7 days a week. Here is picture of my little guy that I am waiting to see grow up.

Here is another shot. He looks like a littly draft horse. Right now he high in the back end and then the front will catch up and back forth. I hope to put another 250 pounds on him this summer. He still a bit small for me to ride me being so tall I look a bit silly. But hes just a two year old. Right now I am working on getting him a saddle that fits. I have two that are to narrow for wide back.
