Yet ANOTHER reason to buy a Harrison Rocket. Besides being superior to throw, the lead is in a rubber bladder so there is no contamination.

;)

How harmful is that we handle these lead bags all day then handle our food and sandwiches at lunch? One day but 300 days a year multiplied by 10,15,20 years thats alot of exposure. I thought about that one day when I saw the puff of lead dust fly out and blue bag was white with dust. Can I file a lawsuite against the throw bag manufature for my recent memory loss and stupidity? Is it just me but I can never remember what trees I climbed a few days before?

The horrible dangers of lead are a bit overstated. (Yes, High serum lead levels are very bad but it isn't as easily absorbed as many fear). Still I have to wonder why the steel fillled throwbags aren't on the market. The extra bulk would be fairly negligible in this application and the cost difference is minor. For that matter we could be sandbaggin' it.

There are many other materials that could be used instead of lead. I talked with Paul Sisson a while ago about this. He had done some research about alternatives. Some are close to the density. But...you have to remember "price-pointing." These other materials cost much more than lead so no one, well maybe a couple people, would pay the extra for a "green" throwbag.

My throwbags last a long time. I can't remember the last time the stitching blew out. Rocky must be buying cheapies or there really is something in the FL water. Most of my bags escape or get cut.

cost of change

Lead shot is cheap but tin or zinc would not be adding a much to the overall cost. They run about twice the cost of lead. Not even adding a buck to the cost of a throw bag. Steel shot tends to rust into a lump when wetted down too often. Sand tends to powder when impacted too often and soaks up water when wetted. Cheap bags don't have blatters. Say it adds a buck to the cost of a throwbag, would it make that much difference to be green friendly? Tin soldiers are tin because lead is bad for kids. Plumbing went to lead free because leads not good to add to drinking water. A buck a bag maybe? Tin is more than zinc, zinc is more than lead, it comes down to cost and availability. When they went to steel shot for hunting they had all this lead shot left over in the wearhouse. :D :D Can you say Throw Bags?:D

Lead shot is still very much in use in shotshell ammunition. Steel shot was dictated for waterfowl. (Because they ingest it in place of gravel for their gizzards where it gets ground up and poisons the bird.)Some limited areas specify non-toxic shot for everything but most areas are not restricted. The ammo makers have moved beyond steel to using sintered iron and tungsten or bismuth in the "premium" waterfowl ammunition(steel is still most common after lead). There are lots of options besides lead shot for throwbags but lead shot happens to be cheapest.

Speaking of loosing throw bags, I lost a couple of mine AND my line tamer about a week after I came down and climbed for you Justin. Then when I got some new ones, I got one stuck in a tree and wrapped the zing it around the other one a couple of times and gave it a yank and the line cut the thing in half. I need to start buying those things by the case.

Rocky,

I have no clue what bags you use. No assumption was made on my part. Lay off...

I've got some of the Sherrill/Weaver bags and they have performed just fine. I have Harrison Rockets on the throwing end and Sherrill bags on the manipulating end.

Here you go again, spraying without telling the whole story. Do you want to tell everyone about Cathy's public apology? Do you realize that you're the only person who had an issue with the announcement that Fresco was going to be at Expo? No one else did their laundry on any of the arbo forums or contacted Resco personally. Just you. Have you ever taken up any customer service issue with any company personally? For a long time you've done your laundry in public.

Everyone has their own opinion and to that they are entitled. The Tom Dunlap that I met at the TCI convention in Pittsburgh and was a nice guy who took some of his time to share his opinions of the Butterfly II saddle and it's benefits. Tom is a pretty busy guy and had a lot to do that weekend but he still gave of his time to help me. I have also had phone conversation with Tom, same thing, real nice standup guy!

Rocky,

:)

I don't believe in hell, but that's a topic of spirituality that is more suited for the Off Topic forum. :)

I'll stand by my assessment of the Sherrill bags. I first preference is for Rockets so all the rest are cheapies. This is a case, in my opinion, second place is way behind first. My Rockets have all out-lasted any throwbag except for my Ness/New Tribe bags. I wish that they made tippy, pointed ones. The 'pouchy' ones plop down on limbs and don't drop so I don't use them much anymore. I still have a NT that is probably a dozen years old. None have ever blown out. Lost or ripped is their only death.

Your volley :)

I have to ask.
MB gets suspended for a week because he had an indirect link to his forum in his signature. But yet rocky can routinely harass and insult people and its acceptable because "thats rocky"?

what gives?:confused:

Darin has rules regarding advertising, competitive websites, ????, etc. He has yet to define a standard for a lack of interpersonal relationship skills. There are however boundries that should not be crossed. While Rocky's statement could have been said with more tact and/or diplomacy it isn't technically slanderous or inaccurate.

im aware of the posting guidelines...
mBs site is hardley competitive, its just another place to hang out.
the guidelines state no links to other forums within the green industry. Mbs site is more like a lounge a place to kick your feet up and let loose, but because trees are a topic it is considered a competing forum.

Calling someone a liar and a fraud may not be technically slanderous, however to say it was not inaccurate is wrong.

i know tom very well, he is neither of these things, anyone here who also knows him will agree.

Un-Freaking Beliveable :rolleyes: (Xander)

Y'ain't selling that Tom is a Liar & Fraud;
nor that MB's party does anymore than help keep this turf cleaner, to me here.

Nor, that either of their contributions don't far outweigh any possible gray areas;
deserving of far more respect,
than either given this day.

Yet, they are some of the first to extend same.
