You can get them at Baileysonline.com or racingaxes.com or canadaxe.com. The canadaxe axes are smaller and lighter than the tuitahis. To be frank, you can make a throwing axe out of any double bitted axe. The bigger the cutting edge the better as long as it's not over 6" from tip to tip. The handle shouldn't be any longer than 24", but that's a matter of personal preference.

Good luck.

all the best,
Jamie

Just like I said last time you ask this. Spend $20 and make your own. Or spend $150-$300 for a ready made one.

I bought one in two pieces from bailey's and saved $50, that'll do it. I'm looking forward to practicing, seems like a good way to relax. Thanks for the input everybody.

If you have any questions on anything, please just ask. I've being throwing axes competitively for over 25 years. Ran my first stock saw in competition at age 8. Threw my first axe at about the same time. Chopped my first competition log at 12. Started crosscutting at 14. Love the sport.

Jamie, just curious, if you were to recommend only one event, which one? I ask because if I ever decide to risk my hide/marriage by spending the $$ to attend one, I want to make sure it's a good one. The only lumberjack competition we get in Texas, that I know of, is in Lufkin. Thanks.

Aw ra best! Chris J.

hey Chris,
to my knowledge, the Texas Forest Festival hasn't had a real life lumberjack competition for almost ten years. It was once one of our best contests. Now, I believe one of the travelling exhibitors has crappy exhibitions.

The best contest in the Southern Axemen's ASsociation would probably be Winnfield, LA, or the Lousiana Forest Festival. The event happens in late April and has six different classes of chainsawing (0-3, 3-5, 5-6, stock you supply chain, modified saw, and unlimited saw), underhand, standing, springboard, single buck, double buck, jack & Jill, and axe throw. Joe Lang, Roger Hansen, Adrian James, Terry Taylor, Karl Hansen, Terry Warlick and several others really work hard to put on a top notch event year in and year out. It is by far one of my favorite events to attend.

Hope that helps?

all the best,
Jamie

Chris, if you're going to attend, you might as well enter the axe throwing or the supply your own chain stock saw. It's, I believe $10 per event to enter. I believe the LA Forest Festival has a website. From that you should be able to get the numbers for the people to speak to about the show. Joe Lang is the president of the LA Forestry Association. I believe he lives in Winnfield. Call information if you have to.

all the best,
jamie
