Is not having a "vertical" component to it enough of a negative to prevent you from getting it?
I know that with the size of a lot of the wood I can get being 24" in diameter that if I had to lift it to split it, my back would be gone.
I know the TW can be purchased with a log lift but isn't it fairly slow? Also, doesn't that bring the price up in excess of $2500?
I'm just trying to work my way through the jungle of log splitter information and, the more information I get, the more dense the jungle seems to be.
Actually NOT having the "vertical" component is exactly WHY I bought the TW-P1. I don't like the idea of having to hammer stuck rounds off a wedge mounted on the ram. . . with a horizontal like the TW-P1 that never happens. If a peice gets hung on the wedge, the next piece merely pushes it through. Doesn't slow you down - - and you don't have to beat the crap out of your splitter with a sledge to remove a stuck piece.
Look - use that great MS361 with the 20" bar you own to halve or quarter those large rounds into somethimg more manageble. It'll do it no problem - I know, I used to own one. No sense killing your back. I don't lift much more than 18" rounds.
The way I looked at it was it was much better to lift an occasional larger round onto the TW-P1 than it was to spend the whole day kneeling on, or bending WAAAYY over to the ground to wrestle large rounds through the mud and dirt into place using a vertical splitter.
Buy the TW-P1. You won't be dissapointed.
Good luck - - - Al
