Has anyone ever tried putting tire chains on their wheeled stump grinder to increase traction? I'd like to have a tracked grinder but I have heard that they can tear up lawns when you have to do tight manuevering.
I have a Carlton 5700-4 (early model of the 7015?), with duals on the cutter end.
If you have/do run chains:
1. Do you see a signifcant traction improvement?
2. Have you tried them on both the inner and outer wheels?
3. Which wheels do you normally run them on?
4. Do you leave them on there all the time?
5. Do they tear up anything, turf, paved driveways, concrete?
6. How do the chains wear on the stump grinder, does it seem like they'll last forever?

I am also interested in any other comments you might have about this application of chains, tips, chains sources, etc.

Thanks,
Chris

Do a search on here, I remember someone did it and actualy had a cross-bar welded to the chains (there were pictures) . It was sorta like a grouser bar on a dozer. I definatley understand why you want to do it. Wheeled machines suck compared to tracked machines. I can say that because I sold my TRX7015 and kept my 4400-4. It's a good machine but I got SPOILED with the tracks.

I did do a search, but so far only found one thread. There wasn't much info in it so I posted the question. When I get some more time I will try some different search terms.

Thanks,
Chris

Do a search on 4400-4 or how to put a remote on stumpgrinder. I cant remember the thread but I know its here and its a good one. My wheeled machine will get stuck if I even think negativley:bang:
