In the chainsaw section dozerdan was thanking all those that helped at the get together. He mentioned that Rich was the largest tree monkey he had ever seen. How big is too big to climb trees safely?

Me, Rich and Butch are all the same size. JPS is #260.

I would think that as long as you can get up and around in the tree, while mainting a safe TIP you can weigh whatever.

However over 300#'s might cause some saftey conserns.

JPS is about the biggest practical sized tree monkey.

Carl, Who EVER said that JPS was a practical size? More like "the super-large but not economical to feed size".:p (And I'm right up there with him just a bit shorter!:D

Well how much do you three weigh? I'm at 230 and dropping. I hope to be 200 by this fall.

well im 6.1 and 265 pounds...i got just a bit around the middle haha...but definatly smaller guys get around a tree a lot quicker than me, i always like too see a climber at around 5.6-5.10..and weigh in at around ..150 to 190....but the biggest tree APE i ever saw was around 6.2 and weighed about 320 pounds and thats no kidding...man i bet he swets on a summers day

190?!?
I guess I could get down to that eventually, but I'm just looking to shed the extra winter layer. Actually I have several winter layers to work on! All in due time. I just had the idea that all the guys on here were 170-195 or so. It all depends on height too I guess.

There was a Samoan guy around here about 10 years ago trimming coconut palms, the only thing he would do. No equipment except for a p/u truck, cane knife, and climbing gear. He must have weighed 350 lbs. I never saw him climb the real "skinny" trees, but he did do some tall ones. Don't know if he fell, died, moved or quit doing trees, but I haven't seen him around for at least 5 years.

Koa,
Maybe he lost a bunch of weight and you just don't recognize him:D

Largest climber I have ever met was Larry Divorsky who is a regional trainer for TCOT. He was up around 400 a number of years ago, and still climbed. Last I heard he was about 300 lbs and climbed. Ask Ken Palmer what a "Larry Newton" is.

I am at at a steady 230, but it seems that it will go up this summer rather than go down.

I will probably stay around 230-240 this summer.

weight watchers

well im 5.10 and about 13stone (12 half but if i say 13 im being optamistic and when i weigh its normally a pleasent surprise)

jamie

5'10" and shrinking shorter as allold folks do, but 190# and rising:angry: Much stronger than when I was 150# ish in my running days, but slower and stiffer, o for the old bod...

Waiting for Rocky to weigh in  on this one, boy I crack myself up so easily. He's small but nimble, it ain't the meat it's the motion, as the old jazz song goes, but I think she was talking about a different kind of ascending...

Talked to a competitor today on his celphone; he's onl;y 50 but such a gut, easy to see why he doesn't climb so much anymore. Overheard the McD order of 2 of those fried pies; I told him "That's the wasy to keep your figure".

He laughed as much as someone can when they're drooling a river...

I'm 5'10 165. The leaner the better for a climber as far as i'm concerned. I think height might be a certain advantage at times, but heavier, i don't see that.
