basically what have u used that has impressed u in the top handle saw category that isnt stihl or husqy .......i had a tanaka top handle it was ok

how bout you

Homelite XL best bang for the buck no doubt,,,,, but I also have just aquired a shindaiwa 326T and am impressed with it. I have only had limited use with it though, but you just cant beat the Xl.

I used to run a older model echo you couldnt trade me nothing for tougher than hell when i finally had to put her down i bought there new and supposedly improved model and the motor was a runner but the body was absolutely junk! Now i run stihl!!!

My backup saw is a Hitachi CS33ET with a muffler mod ;)

Its absolute garbage compared to my 200T but its great to have around if I need it (as in to finish the job if the 200 is destroyed beyond repair, NOT if it simply runs out of gas). Also good for my groundies to use to cut up brush, complete with safety chain and everything :msp_thumbup:

I have climbed with it once to remove a widow maker. Some features I liked were the diagonal wrap handle gives you more leverage on your undercuts, and also there are no dawgs/spikes which was a good thing in the pruning application I was using it for (don't want to accidentally dig your dawgs into the branch collar on the finishing cut).

The worst part, aside from being a cheap home owner chainsaw, is the ring that is provided to hang it from doesn't look very solid at all, and its too small to easily get a webbing lanyard into unless you really jam it in.

It does come with a 7 year warranty and it seems built to last(rugged plastic parts, two piston rings etc...)

Got mine in brand new condition off of ebay for about $120 including shipping.

Solo 637...best top handle saw I have ever owned! Okay it's the only top handle I've ever owned but for $65 to get an identical pair that were both runners it has to be the best top handled saws ever.

As far as top handle saws I have run in the past:

Homelite XL: Old one

The old Poulan top handle, circa early 1990 something

A couple of older Echo top handles (which I have forgot the model numbers)

Stihl 192T...

None of which have impressed me.

200T: there is no substitute in my experience.

J-Red 2139T, kind of cheating because J-Red and Husky are in bed together, but it works fine! I have an old Craftsman/Poulan from the early 80's that was my Dad's that still runs after almost 30 years, nothing fancy but it gets the job done.

super 2

I thought the top handled homelite was called the super 2 and it had twin triggers, and the fuel and oil caps leaked like crazy, and the homelite xl was a ground saw.

Hey Keith, Ditto on that Super 2, I had one for years..... Didn't Asplundh use them when you were there?? (I am not trying to say you're old or anything.....:cool2:)

Mine didn't leak as bad cause I put extra gasket material under the caps.........

Wish I still had it.

Poulan super 25 automatic. Green and mean. A top handle homeowner saw not meant for climbing, but functions as such.

200T No Questions Asked

Hands down puts all other top handle saws to shame. Balance Power Weight are truly unmatched

Well.. I have tried a few.. but realistically have not seen anything that I would consider a great saw.. other than the 200T.

There are some ok saws.. but nothing that is really good (including the 192T).

I use to like the little top handled echos, they do alright and their cheap. But the t200 is king.

They are ok, they do the job, they are reliable. But the thread said "impressive", and they are NOT that .. There are no non-brand name top handled saws that actually fit the title "impressive".. none. There are reliable ones, ones that are fairly decent.. but not impressive.
