Hi everyone. I am trying to impress a builder who is asking me for a price for doing some land clearing. The guy had some land clearing done a few months ago. 1 1/2 acres got cleared... (1) 30" DBH Sugar Maple was "saved." Well they started doing the work and I drove by the site a few weeks ago... the 1 tree that was saved out of all of the other trees had half of its branches broken by heavy equipment. Now if that wouldn't kill the tree then I am sure the big piles of soil on top of the root system would do it. I would like to hand the builder a tree protection agreement type thing that all the subs can sign saying they agree not to do certain things and will pay penalties if they do the things... You guys can either IM me on AIM or send me an email and I will send you out a copy. I think its a pretty good start if you are even trying to do up your own TPP's.

TPP??? Tree Protection Plan?

You have a good idea. Implimenting the plan could be a mine field for you. How are you going to assess and scale the value of the damages? Are you going to be on site all of the time? Can you "prove" that the tree died/died back because of ...fill in the blank...?

Have you read "Trees and Development" by Matheny and Clark? Chapter 8 deals with "Minimizing Impacts and Preparing Specifications"

Tom, I have only devised the part that the sub contractors sign so far. Even then its just the beginning. What is your email... I will send you a copy of what I have come up with so far.
