Hi all, has anyone used or is currently using a standard tree amenity valuation method for trees. I use a basic amenity value established through D.B.H measurements and increase or decrease this value depending on various other factors, location, condition of tree, species, age etc..

Ive seen some extremely complex formulas that are generally confusing and tend to be fairly generic in outcome.

Hello Yibida,
Both the Thyer method and the Revised Burnley method have been accepted by Victorian Courts and LGA's as standardised valuation methods, the rational for the nuts and bolts of the calculation in each is really not that complex.

There is little doubt that no matter what method/system you choose to apply another Arborist applying the same method would in all likelihood reach a slightly (or greatly!) different amount at the end. All the methods have elements of subjective judgement on the part of the assessor, hence the scope for varying results.

Ultimately provided there is a clear rational for the elements you take into consideration (and this is the case for both Thyer and Revised Burnley) it comes down to how rigorous you are in your own assessment method, as to how relevant the end result is...this is particularly important if the valuation is going to be presented in court.

Thanks Boa, im familier with the old Burnley method from years back so i'll look up the revised Burnley and Thyer method as well. Cheers.
