i dont know.....seems the only way you southern boys can get into a tree is by spike, ladder, or bucket.
what say you to that? lol
2¢.

I do spikeless pruning all the time, silly boy. :chatter:
and I have limbwalked 47' out off the trunk of a huge water oak. I was born to be on a rope.
if I had to fly a bucket, I would quit this business.
I climb trees so I can CLIMB trees. Justin, I know you can dig it?:crazy1:
ain't about the money all the time.
but being 46, Damm, I like my ladder to help me get up.

I still prefer big takedowns though, why I travel to storms. nastier the better.:hmm3grin2orange:

I didn't know WLL was gone, bummer.

the better climbers are usually the more abrasive to some degree, IMHO. I have met hundreds and hundreds while traveling, and it ain't hard to determine which ones are just average, competent men, and which ones you want to hang out with. personality and exceptional skills go hand in hand in this business.
the hacks are the easiest to spot.:) and the first ones locked up in FLA.

Meh. I've met very abrasive climbers that suck too. Climbers ( good or bad ) are generally #######s. Perfect career for me.

When I am rigging or even when I bombing stuff out of a big tree I like to climb a central lead or set a line with a big shot and get a good central TIP where I can swing around. Saves time climbing because I don't have to clip and unclip my lanyard while bypassing limbs. I just tend my slack as I go up. Only time I really climb without a set line anymore is on the rare pine or single stem hardwood where I can chop, top and drop. Most of the trees I do are either multi-stemmed or have large limbs that I need to get out on so it makes it easier to have a good central TIP set before I ascend.

:agree2:Gonna end up with TIP in the top anyway, may as well do it from the git-go.Saves time in the long run IMHO.

brokeback is what is gonna happen to you ,old timer, if you try to keep up with me. (and i mean that in the most heterosexual way possible!!)

climbing

ok, i am new to climbing but i have plenty of tree work related exp. considering i started at 12 for my dad who owns his tree company. anyways... i was wondering is it easier to climb all the way up a tree then come back down and start cutting limbs. or just bucking up and cutting till your at the top?

we have had many climbers come and go through the years and everyone does it differently. so which is the best?

BTW we do a lot of removals so we use spikes all the time.

Some guys like to go to the top and work their way down. For me i get some branches that i can on the way up.

i need someone to follow me around with a camera, man. that'd be the only way i could get some pics of the action.

anyone want to chip in for "buzzid cam" with me? we'll get one of them sweet camera setups that reg dude got and put it on my lid.

speaking of pics. any more of that swing you made tman? put "buzzid cam" on your girl and see what that ride really looks like. lol.

You guys may as well know. After a 15' climb to the lowest branch on the giant oak, oldirty must of noticed I was going to have a tough time swinging up on that thick branch. Justin climbed down the tree we were rec climbing in to give the Adkpk a hand. Thanks again dirty!

But now I can hand over hand with the hitch climber (thanks again to Justin) to where ever in a tree. Tree climbing has turned out to be a great outlet for me late in life. It's really rounded off my career. Not to mention how much I enjoy being in a tree. Aboristsite has certainly paid off for me.

Sounds like a breakthrough for you with that pulley. Good to hear about it.
