If there is even a remote doubt in your mind that you can handle this, then by all means get some help.

I find it easier to live with my bruised ego at times than a bruised body, or worse an injury.

Scott, your first mistake would be in taking a treeclimbers advice on how to dump a tree.
That would be much like a beaver asking a monkey how to make felling notches.
Yup, that's what it would be like.

I go for safety first. If there is any chance at all of a leaning tree not going where I want I will cable it, if even then if I'm not sure it is professional time.

I'd go with your option 1.

Don't leave the branches on except for the top where you can't reach comfortably.

it must suck being a logger and stuck on the ground,if were tree monkeys there the brainless apes hahaha

Sometimes you can get carried away and over pull a tree with a vehicle, if its not that big of a blue gum, use a rope or a come along, and what the heck is a scarf?

what the heck is a scarf?

a scarf is the same as a notch

I saw the trees today two are leaning over the barn I have told the people I will not cut them down but would be happy to cut down the ones that are away from the barn and are not on a lean and also the lady misidentified the trees they are not blue gum they are eucalyptys trees

Seeing that this thread was bought up again this is what is going to happen. My tutor from the forestry course is going to help me along with a few class mates my tutor has 17 years forestry and tree surgeon experience so he is going to use these trees as a class experience as he has been trying to find a situation like what this thread was based on (trees leaning over barns etc) so he can show the guys what to do in a situation like the one I was talking about.
