HI, thanks for the response. def not cottonwood. Don't think Beech either.
My sister visited with her husband who is a certified arborist. He didn't know what it was either. His best guess is Prunus. Some sort of wild cherry. That is based on the leaves. He needed to see fruit to get an affirmative determination.
