Have you guys ever turned down a job because the homeowner wanted something so out of spec that you would be considered a hack if you did it? I know I have! And then drove by and seen it done the way they wanted afterwards.

sometimes i walk away because i dont want my name on jobs like that. it happens every other week at least. and if its a job that i need i will charge much more for my personal mental insurance charge.

Here it is!
A prune cut is a wound cut. It is important to know the reaction and response of the tree with respect to the desired outcome. It is important to the customer to realize that they have a provider with their best and the trees best interest in mind. To be aranum is the same as greedy.

OK, "arcanum" means "secret" or "mystrey"..So you're saying that for an arborist to be secretive or mysterious means that he may be hiding something from the client? And the reason for hiding stuff is greed, in taking advantage of their lack of knowledge?

I'm working tountangle your :alien: crypticity here Jeff; help me out, willya?

I guess you guessed right. Do you disagree?
Ido agree, though I hate to think my colleagues would want to take advantage of a customer's lack of knowledge. If they do get informed and the unscrupulous contractor is found out, it may put not help customer loyalty. :(

Inform your customers of the health of their tree(s) and find out why they think it must be removed. Educate them so they can make an informed decision. Your in the "tree care" business so let your customers see that you care. Last year I talked a home owner out of an unnecessary removal of a mature oak. That same home owner has since referred 5 new customers to me just because I took the time to talk to him!
