Have older 4400-4 w/400 hrs. After the machine works for about 1/2 hr the unit will hardly move. Head swing slows also. It will also not stay against the stump when grinding. Ground speed gets to be super slow. The machine has hard time climbing over spoil pile and it hardly has enough power to go up the ramp back into the trailer. I have replaced a couple solenoids but problem remains present.

Anyone else ever have this problem?

Sounds like flow problem with hydraulic system. Check belt tension if equipped. Low oil level will also cause problem. Has filter and oil ever been changed? Observe belts while engaging hydraulics and see if they are slipping. Check outward flow from pump with pressure gauge according to owners manual to make sure you still have full pressure. Worst case might be hydraulic pump motor is starting failure. Good luck.

I would suspect that the fluid is foaming. Run it till it starts to act up, open the cap on the reservoir and insert a section of 1/4" clear vinyl tubing long enough to reach the bottom. Cover the end with your finger and pull it up. The fluid should be clear with very little foam on top or suspended air bubbles in the fluid. Problem might be caused by leak on suction side, or return line 'dumping' into the tank above the fluid level. Could also just be low fluid level.
