I would like to have a cap that the sides open, however the price was right on the used one I bought.

Another plus is getting a cap that has roof racks (that will hold some weight) built into them.

When I arrive on a job, the garbage can, plylons and gas can come out leaving room to climb in and get whatever I need. The rest stay in, a plus when its raining.

The ARE caps have a roof rack options.. you can order 3 different racks. The heaviest duty one will hold a lot.. you can easily get up and walk across it with no bending or give in rack at all.

I like these caps myself. Three things i've found over the years though-go with the taller cap, seems to give you more space to hang ropes which i prefer to do. Get one that allows you to keep and use the tailgate, my tailgate is basically the workbench on the site. And get one that lets you reach the front of the box-i hate climbing into the back of the truck to reach stuff in the front. I actually needed more room inside the cap rather than toolboxes along the side, so the front door on the passenger side of the cap opens into the front of the box instead of into a toolbox.

Taller caps are nice for sure.. and they do make some really tall ones if you want them. Also makes it easier to get inside with a bit more headroom.

treeclimber101 that is exactly the kind of organization i was looking for, i have a box trailer from my carpentry days maybe ill convert that over that is a sick setup

Posted this earlier. I have since added plywood along the inside, blocking out the windows. (I hope to change the plywood with Aluminum over the winter). I also have a piece of plywood that blocks off the back that I will be changing to aluminum and set it up to lock into the side aluminum.

The bed I made out of a couple of sheets of plywood. It has held up quite well and I'm amazed in how much stuff it carries.

Man, that setup rocks...

1 Ton extended van and a good insurance policy. Everything's nice and dry and out of sight. The only minus is the smell from stinking ropes and fuel. I usually cover the saws with a tarp so they're not as tempting. As far as security; I remember driving truck in the Bronx and in Baltimore and getting broken into WHILE I was going down the street. And that was with a max security lock. That's what insurance is for.

Guys have laughed at me in the past , until they see how nice it is .... I have nothing to do but pop the locks and go to work ... Its unconventional for trees until you see how nice things are with it ..

Nice! Is that your saddle with the spreader snap on it there treeclimber?? :hmm3grin2orange:

What make chip body is that?

I have a dodge diesel with a 12ft utility box and ladder rack. If I had a dump trailer and ramps itd be the cats azz. Got just enuff room to park the mini between the boxes, and the boxes can carry more than enuff to support 3 climbers.

Yea it is if you must know , its for the winter when I wear more shirts ... ####head , the body was made by timberland truck from VA , they make that body the same for all sizes .... The roof isn't removable on that truck though kinda wanted it but couldn't do it with the weight ..That truck is for sale for 6500.00 if you know anyone , its a 6.5 diesel auto , alot of new parts ...it has about 110K on it but its a tight truck...

I keep kicking around the idea of buying a service truck, the ones with the bed as a tool box, like the concrete guys use. Put a welder and a compressor in the middle, have all the extra gear on it. Trying to pack it all in the tool boxes of the Bucket truck is a PITA.
Those are some nice set up's tho.

Still picking from the pile as needed and putting in back of one ton.. dreaming of L pack boxes on the new truck next year though!

I'M in ks and i store my equipment about like you but if i left my ropes out of a bag like that a rat would chew one spot on one rope and it would be the rope i would be climbing on next you could bet on that. just a thought be careful with the climber ropes !

Thats an interesting concern, that I never even thought about. I have a shop cat now though..

I keep all of my climbing gear that I currently use in a large plastic tub and keep all of my rigging gear in another. I still load and unload my gear in and out of the shop every night and day. Keeping all the stuff I use to rig and climb with in the plastic totes saves me a lot of time loading and unloading... Plus it keeps me organized and less likely to leave something behind on the job.

I used to have a truck with a camper shell on it that I used to bid and carry my climbing gear around from job to job (when I wasn't driving the chip truck). I no longer have that truck and no longer have a camper shell. The tubs also keep my stuff dry in the weather.

I had a guy sub for me a few years back who came down from Ohio. He had an old telephone company utility van that he had converted to shelve and hold his gear. That thing was really neat. He even had a work bench in there where he could make up chains and grind them.
