quick question to the guys in THE UK and IN EUROPE what chippers and stump grinders are you using im using a TIMBERWOLF CHIPPER and a VERMEER stump grinder..so far i have been very happy with my machines

oh go on i'll include NORTH AMERICAN and stuff from DOWN UNDER come on what you using and do you like it :D

12''bandits are most common chipper down under,im using a altec drum 12'' and a rayco 1625 grinder cause they were cheap n easy to fix,i like the altec for quikness not so much the dry or bigger stuff but it suits fine eucy limbs with waxy leaf

Running x-asplundh chuck 'n' duck and matching truck. Rayco 1620. Will probably sell the rayco, and go to Alpine Magnum soon to become more efficient. Hopefully trade the chuck 'n' duck in on a vermeer BC1000XL within 2 years.

im going to upgrade my chipper but not in the near future nor will i sell it,i just love it for no leaf block, and the 107 hp ford 6 in it,electronic ignition i may have graphed just to see.bc 1000 would be my choice with weight an issue for my little truck,it has a jake brake that gets the girls wet.turbo going on shortly.

I like the chuck 'n' duck on pruning and conifer removal. But, it costs time on some jobs. Bushy stuff like big arborvitae, juniper, big Christmas trees, or overgrown shrubs need to be cut apart, instead of just set into the feed wheels. Another advantage to the BC1000 would be the eletronic clutch, as none of my help can seem to GENTLY engage the clutch. Another thing a chuck 'n' duck lacks is a rotating chute, so chips can be easily left on site. I wonder how that $6,500 cone head bolt on drum and chute would perform compared to flat blades? http://www.pik-n-pak.com/module.htm

people always comment about the towhitch, its actually an expensive set up with changable ball.tow my stumpy with same hitch

aussie so your truck is what we overhere call a 7.5 ton gross weight truck
i aint seen a tow hitch like that before ,i could do with a bigger truck ,were struggeling at the moment with a little 3.5 ton tipper truck a real pain on big jobs..trouble overhere is the drives are so narrow that with a big truck you would have trouble getting into them

on big jobs it can be a pain filling it up 4 times a day but ill put up with it.my freind has same truck in 4wd its a good thing.what truck are you running?

rolla,
you gotta get a bigger truck.wee've had our 7.5 tonne for nearly 2 years now and the amount of chips and wood it holds over a transit type truck is amazing.we worked out ours holds nearly 4 times the amount of chips over the transit we also use.the 7.5 tonne lorry aint all that much wider than a transit just a bit longer.i can get it into most driveways but then again i can reverse with a chipper on:D

heres a pic of our set up

rolla,
nah that aint a BANDIT it's a LANDFORCE 6" chipper but will take upto 9" as it's the same as the 9" chipper but with a 42hp engine instead of a 50somthing hp engine.for £12.5k new the are as good as £25k SHLIESLING's IMO.the only draw back sometimes is it aint on a turntable but you can't have everything.i'll put some more pics on tomorrow if you want

yeah post some more pics i'm going to look further into these landforce chippers ,have you had any probs at all with it?? isaw them on show at saltex

landforce 170/200 chipper

i used to run a 6" diesel chipper thought it was great little chipper, when a friend rang me said he had just had a demo a landforce chipper, he thought it was a smart machine, as i was toying with upgrading my machine i thought what could i loose and arranged for a demo myself Wow !! what a bit of kit, true ! it may be a bit over kill for the smaller arb work and may be on the big side if you have a newbuilt house with a small garage for storage, which is the case for some surgeons out there, however if you can accomadate this machine its worth having a look at, it just destroys anything my lads but to it, a 40 hp diesel lump to drive it has 9 cutting knives and twin hyd rollers and built in the jeremy clarkson school of thinking built to be thrown off cliffs and still work at the bottom
i bought one in late may 04, work is on the up so have just ordered another, the lads i bought from are in the the industry and didn`t try to blow sunshine where it isn`t supposed to go the list price is 13K but thats up to you
bonus is i have just been told that any purchase signed in the month (sept / oct ) qualifys for entry to a competition to win a paid up cruise holiday!!!!! ye ha now that worth having!!
