No offense to the EMT but most of the EMS crew are morons. Im an ICU/ER nurse and was an EMT prior to that. EMS have very basic knowledge..what were they gonna do transport him to the ER with a portion of the tree?

Did anyone see the story in the news about the WWII vet that was carjacked at the gas station in Detroit? I guess the guy's leg was broken in the attack and security video showed people were walking over him and past him as he was crawling across the parking lot to get the attendant to call for police and and an ambulance. Nobody would help this poor old guy. What sad world we live in these days.

update

I was at the gas station the other day and recognized the guys wife pumping gas. I walked over and asked how her husband was doing. She looked at me kinda crosseyed so I said I'm the guy who cut the tree of your husband. She said omg and instantly hugged me and said thank you about ten times. Then she opened the van door and theres her husband. We talked for a bit he was very thankful. Seemed sincere. I can sleep easy now.

I would have done exactly what you did. However, it is true that a crush victim may instantly bleed out and die when you relieve the pressure. It can be all internal too.

the end result would be the same if the emt's were there or not. impaled... different story.
