I'm not super involved in cutting wood, but I have learned a TON from searches and old posts, so thanks to you guys, a bunch!

I bought a Husqvarna air injection 55 last year from a fellow here on the trading post. He said that he couldn't get it to maintain the jetting.

I was finally able to dig into it this last week, and I replaced the impulse grommet, the intake boot, fuel line and clean everything up. The saw would start and run at idle, but would die at WOT. So I bought a new fuel filter and carburetor gasket from the dealer, and today it fired up & ran like a champ. I am still a bit worried about the fuel vent - I have a new one to install- but it seems like it will do its job. The next step is to do a muffler mod - I've read a few different versions, but am still figuring things out.

I'd like to thank anyone that has given an input on old threads, and would welcome any new input (especially on the muff mod)

Thanks Brant

Nice one, glad you got it sorted! CAD awaits.....!

Well, turns out I was a little premature... Symptoms came back, so I rebuilt the carburetor, including the welch plug. Cuz, well, they included it. But saw wouldn't even start after that. So I removed the muffler, and while I was wiping it out, noticed the gasket was broken. I would think that the saw would still run after clearing out the carb. Is there a special way to install the Welch plug?

Clues: 1. A member on here that sells a saw and has trouble before he sells it means it won't be an easy fix (gas lines filter etc). Now a guy that is iffy about welch plugs is trying to fix it.
2. The 55 series has a lot of plastic that warps, breaks, bends, cracks, lets screws strip and just plain does not work right all the time. That little tit for the pulse signal with the rubber around it is especially prone to problems.
3. Now you have open the carburetor can of worms. You have to know settings, lever heights, and gasket placement.
4. Pay attention to the rubber intake sleeve. It has to fit tight and has to fit right.
5. Keep at it you will either learn or take it to someone that knows, and will teach you, or fix it (or get rid of it).

That little intake grommet is THE Achilles heel of this Saw,along with the plastic intake bulkhead.

I had replaced the impulse grommet & intake boot, & while doing so, the fuel line snapped in half. So I replaced that & the filter, & vent. When I removed the muffler to wipe it down, I noticed that the gasket was in 2 pieces. So I replaced that. Then I put the carb kit in the other carb without messing with the Welch plug this time, & it seems to be doing well. I'll check for sure tomorrow after it sits for a bit

On the Welch plugs, all it should need is 1 tap in the center to expand it. I learned a trick from my father in law, a retired snowmobile mechanic, you can use nail polish to seal the Welch plugs, the gas doesn't desolve it!

The gas doesn't, but I believe that ethanol DOES dissolve it.

That may be possible, I run rec90 ethanol free in my ***. I did have a vintage sled I used the nail polish on, and it held up fine.

If you have real gas available and that is the ONLY thing that will be in the tank, go for it. FWIW, I did the welch plugs on a carb (the 245 rebuild) and didn't use anything to seal them. The carb seems to be just fine.... YMMV

So, it fired up first pull (took choke off in time) and seems to run well. Thanks to all you guys giving advice and help.
