vermeer 1250 chipper shaft replacement

Help! I am in the process of replacing the shaft and bearings on the cutter wheel (?); however, there are a number of shims that go on the shaft (a couple of which were damaged removing the old shaft). A call to my local dealer and a review of the manual did not reveal where the shims go or how to set up the cutting wheel in the machine. Any suggestions where to go for info?

Still hoping for some input. FYI its a 1989 version. I thankful that Vermeer still carries parts!
