Recently received a new Walkerized 372XPW, and there is a hole drilled through the clutch cover, where a plastic washer about 1 inch in diameter, and 1/4 inch thick was riveted directly center of the end of the crankshaft. Any ideas on what this is for? Thanks.

I did ask John, and he promptly answered me. Just wanted to see if anyone else out there knew. Also, sometimes he doesn't get back right away.

My 372XPG-W doesnt have one, guess gypo didnt rate (the original owner)

I'll bet it is there to keep from parts getting lost if the C clip comes off.

Probably used to attach the sewing machine belt to drive the dyno... lol

I really have no idea... but as you know there is a hole in the end of the crankshaft that connects to a cross hole at the sprcket bearing for squirting grease in to lube the sprocket bearing.
So it sounds like that won't be used anymore.

I seen guys drill holes (~1/4" dia) in the side covers just to access the lube point without having to take the side cover off

Per John Walker. It is to prevent the chain from binding inside the clutch cover and breaking it when the chain brakes or comes off. I will send pictures of it once I get them on disk. Thanks for trying guys. I may need to clarify. It is attached to the clutch/chain cover, not the crankshaft.

Per John Walker. It was installed by them to prevent the chain from getting lodged in the clutch cover and breaking it in the event the chain comes off or breaks. Must be a problem? I should clarify further in case some did not understand. The hole is through the clutch/sprocket cover, and the washer is fastened to the inside of the cover centered on the end of the crankshaft. It does not touch the end of the crankshaft. Thanks for the replies fellas.

i have noticed the same application in walkerized saws. i test all saws hard and have had no trouble with any thing from walkers! if they build it, i trust it. i am now working on testing madsen products. marty
