I Just got a 260 and the muffler was already opened. Here's the what I want to change. The exhaust blows towards the chain guard because of the shield over the screened port. Here's what it looks like right now.

I own several Walkers mufflers and feel they do the best job, If I get a pic I can have my friend duplicate it.

Hey Mark, I know that it could be a PITA to find them but there are a few pics of Walkerized 026 mufflers in the archives. I believe that Gypo and Woodsjunkie put up atleast a few.

Here is pic of a 026 Walkers from back in the day old school. I have had the WoodsJunkies 026 for 2 days and I will say it has some balls but my Walkers 346xp will kick it's ass all day.
I am running 3/8'ths square ground on the 346 and it just rocks.

I have tried to own a Stihl in my quiver but they seem like nothing has been done to improve them in 20 years.

john lambert's 346 husky pipe
Hello eric,
Heres a photo of a pipe i thought you would enjoy seeing. this is a pipe we are going to fit to john lambert's 346 husky if I ever get the darn thing finished. I'm going to run it on my dyno before the modifications and after and then with the pipe to see what we can pump out of it. will post the results when I finish modifing the saw

I was wondering how this saw turned out.

I think you Mean Bong???

I don't know if that saw ever became but I would love to have a pipe on my 346 or 357. With all this posting with the new guys about the race chain and all just reading that makes me feel like I'm a fill in at a **** shoot.

Hi Mark

Guess I didn`t realize that your 026 is Walkerized, or is it?

When I got my Walkerized 346 I had actually called them to order an 026, but was talked out of it by John W. when he informed me that they are getting better returns from the 346. I believe that Walkerized 346s are way under rated by most people, because mine runs so strong, and for the price they are a bargain. I will say this however. Since I swapped to the wt426 carb on my Greffardized 260 it`s a real ass kicker, it will even outcut my W346 unlike all the other 026/260s I have.

As you know I still think the 026/260 is a great saw, one of my favorites, and I`m sorry if my predjudice lead you to buy something you don`t like. I will give you what you paid for it if you want to be rid of it.

Mrk, IMO the walkers muffler has too much port area for the 026. I had a walkers muffler on mine, but when I sent it to Dennis for a work over I had him put a muffler on it that I designed. It basicaly entails welding shut the stock outlet and putting 1 walkers size pipe on the chain break side of the muffler. There is no way that a 026 needs dual 3/8 pipes like walkers uses on the 026 muffler as well as the 044 and bigger mufflers.

Ben, what ratio of cylinder port to muffler port did you use or was it a WAG that worked out?

Russ

I met with Dan Henry today, the other day I asked him to throw a 260 muffler together. Here it is, smaller than walkers and it's got the pipes I like to look at. I didn't put it on the 260 since I picked up 3 saws and 2 computers with all the port timing data that needs to be recovered.

Here's a shot of the inside and how Dan cleaned it out. I can agree with Ben but it's not my desighn.

Ps, Ben did you get my email about the WR?

Actually the port opening is a variable based somewhat on what rpm you want the engine to produce peak power isn`t it. Other factors would include tranfer size and how they match with the crankcase. I don`t think that there is any one ratio such as 2:1 that works optimally in every situation.

HI
I have found out,on a stock saw,100% of the exhaust port size will work out just fine.If the saw is ported, you have to increase those figures. If you take into consideration that particular muffler is a Tri port,it is over 100% of the exhaust port size.

Consider the fact that a 500 cc two cycle bike motor use a stinger diameter of a little under 3/4 of a inch. With the walkers muffler I noticed that the muffler was always wet with unburnt oil inside, the plugs insulators reading was too dark even though the saw was tuned spot on, and the exhaust ports wave patterns indicated the port temp was low even after a wfo run. Also keep in mind that the mufflers outlets is bascialy a pressure bleed valve. Too little pressure and you are lossing lots of raw mixture out the pipe. Also keep in mind that the mufflers internal capacity is many times that of the cylinder. With this in mind opening up the internals ie eliminating the box as shown in Marky's pics and putting a modest outlet pipe and you should be in the ball park. I am going to be looking into this further to determan what formula to use in determing untuned pipe specs or if a sim program is available to do this.
Dan, Why didnt you eliminate the box inside the muffler? My ms260 didnt have one even when it was stock. BTW nice job on the muffler.
