The ol' McCulloch 47 project may be getting underway before too long. First thing that needs to be handled is going to be the recoil. The previous owner indicated that the saw worked OK until the recoil broke, so I'm hopeful that this thing can be put back in working order to bring out at GTGs and whatnot.

The big problem: the recoil spring is weakened to the point that it just won't work. It isn't broken, but it is wound tight and still has no recoil power. Does anyone know of a good source for these springs (NOS), or a substitute from a more modern machine that can be made to work? I know that the recoils on these saws are notorious as a problem area, so it would be great to find a permanent solution before giving in and scrounging another failure-prone used piece.

On the positive side of things, the saw is complete save for the air cleaner and the air cleaner cover, though. So if I can score those parts and some new 1/2" chain, I should be be set!

I have several non-running 3-25's & 47's to take a starter from if you don't find a modern solution. How long is the bar, looks pretty big. I think all mine have 18's.
