WE GOT WORK. We were outta work for a few days and now we got a nice little stash of work and firewood is selling like crazy. maybe if everyone tells people they got plenty of work and they are spending money and they tell others and so on and so on they people WILL start spending and the economy will get better.

Kind of the opposite of Broke Obama coming on at Christmas and talking about an Ind. town where people should start seeking shelter as they will be homeless soon.

Glad to hear it!! Biz for me gets slow this time of year but allows me to make enough so I dont have to drain my escrow.......which is for this time of year in case work just dies! Nice going into the spring with a little cash left over!

LXT.................

What today's society without scare tactics.

Today's local news stations all ran clips of trees falling on houses, cars, roads, etc.

Maybe we can even scare up some business...

I agree with the positive vibes! The press, TV News etc...Depressing! It is up to a few people who refuse to run and hide to turn things around.

FACT- I know of a plaza owner who had a deal with a couple of local businesses to have their employees park there to make it look busier.
FACT- A friend of mine leaves his truck loaded with wood and drives it around for regular errands, he swears it always generates a few extra sales.

power of suggestion is huge. people....sheeple :agree2:

pls. excuse my lack of caps. my kid spilled orange juice on the keyboard and the right shift key is almost stuck....would love to hear any suggestions for a fix????

Some of em you can pop out the keys and clean with a damp cloth(not paper towel)

Applejuice?

Good to hear about the workload Vet. Every signed contract is worth its weight in gold this time of year!

To the cars in the parking lot theory....
I have actually sent my boys to their friends & families homes to do treework 3 times for free, each time have scored a neighbor or coworker of them which then generates even more. The way I see it is you are paying your guys wages for the day, which keeps up moral, helping a friend that can REALLY help the business, and your gear is out & being seen, so it is actively marketing itself by not sitting in the yard.

OK this will sound bizarre but it is what the IT dudes do. Unplug the keyboard from your computer. Dip it into a large sink of warm water (no soap). Shake out as much of the water as possible. Prop the keyboard up somewhere to dry for a couple of days. Plug it back into your computer. Should work fine.

Sometimes if we have nothing on we will go and have a practice climb in a park. The truck is parked there and people tend to look, be amazed, and then ask for a card when they remember they have some tree work that needs to be done.

Great Idea!

I know around here you need permission & have to additionally insure for liability, but thats easy enough.

And on that note, having a good relationship with your local parks department has HUGE bennefits... emergency work if they get overwhelmed, and they are always coming up with places to dump chips for free (which is a huge operational cost here in the city)

Not to mention that they get tons of calls from HO asking about trees... kinda weird but true. I just so happened to work as the arborist for a major city in the metro area & fielded tons of questions, and always steered them towards my friends tree service to get the work done!

:agree2:Visibility is a huge seller too if they recognize you and can find out how to contact you. I did a removal this fall for free for a Jewish temple on the main thoroughfare as I could set all my equipment and put on a big show that could not be missed.

In retrospect, I probably could have charged a little and they probably would have been just as happy. They gave me a free ad in their weekly newsletter and I got a substantial job from it tho.

Church freebies pay off nicely! (so long as they don't know the man in the tree is athiest that is!)

Probably very few atheists in the interim between slipping out of the canopy and making contact with the ground ....so one could claim a temporary condition to their credit lol.
