Damn!

What today's society without scare tactics.

Today's local news stations all ran clips of trees falling on houses, cars, roads, etc.

Maybe we can even scare up some business...

it didn't scare anyone here.

It amuses me to no end how this transpires. Sometimes even if there is just a mild storm, you can almost picture the crew in their van scouring the city until they come up with one measly little broken 3 inch diameter silver maple limb snapped and hanging (not even bad enough to knock it off).....and stand next to it and film their whole report if they cannot find someone shot to death or other more desirable news.

:agree2:

We had 3 jobs with trees on houses, from this last blow through. Hope work picks up for you as well, nothing outstanding other than that coming through.

I didnt get anything out of that surprisingly. Some lady about 45 mins away called saying she "has some brush all bundled up, and some other RUBBISH that she would like a price on removing". Oddly enough I did not feel inclined to return her call. lol

On a more serious note: a white pine killed some poor mail lady in one of those little mail vans a couple of towns over. What a shame... got me thinking about odds and the prolonged exposure those people have out there on the roads, starting and stopping all the time like that. Sad. Makes me not feel so bad about hating those trees for anything other than a maintained hedgerow.

POS White pine killed a young school girl here last year too.

It is the Cottonweed of the conifers.

Saw the news clip on the mail woman as well, unfortunate incident. I knew of two people that have been struck by branches but survived. One driving in a car, and one walking in the park.

One of the jobs was an oak that had two leads, turns out it was cabled at one time long ago. Final cable strand broke, other were corroded pretty well.
The pine had roots pretty well covered and some insects inhabited in the trunk base.

Seen the news clip on that mail lady too. Talk about being at the wrong time at the wrong place.

I used to mark timber when I was younger. I could remember one day it was real windy, I was walking along through forest, five feet in front of my choosen path a huge limb came crashing down. It scared the crap out of me, made me wonder how lucky I was to be alive. A few more steps too soon I would of been a gonner. No one else around either I would have layed there mangled and dead for days untill someone found me.

More than likely the bugs would've got to ya first, then the various critters would've come along and played tug of war with your ass. Not good.

WE GOT WORK. We were outta work for a few days and now we got a nice little stash of work and firewood is selling like crazy. maybe if everyone tells people they got plenty of work and they are spending money and they tell others and so on and so on they people WILL start spending and the economy will get better.

Kind of the opposite of Broke Obama coming on at Christmas and talking about an Ind. town where people should start seeking shelter as they will be homeless soon.

Sounds good to me.

Basically the opposite of an Obamageddon teleprompter speech.

May as well think positive and act positive.

We have a short stretch of white pines along one of the state highways in town.

About 30 years ago a fellah was killed when a top fell out of the blue (no appreciable wind)...he's just driving probably about 45mph and a top about 12" in diameter just landed dead center on his car roof. Was before my time, but I've seen the pictures.

Same place about six years back had the same thing, just an ordinary day and another top came down. Driver was more lucky -- it landed smack dab on the hood of his car and across the empty front passenger seat, forcing the nose into the pavement and a rapid stop :) He walked away, and while the ambulance crew was handling him I'm left pondering three things...

1) That the car is a diesel and still running;
2) We can't reach the ignition to turn it off or the transmission to shift it out of gear;
3) Why are we standing underneath these trees?

Heading out to work now removing a dead sugar maple in a cemetery in a convent. It is 12 degreesF. Hey if we freeze to death we can just get the Dingo and dig a hole and be done with it. :)
