I have a Bandit 90XP. I read in the manual that the anvil can be repaired by welding. I'm keen to do it this weekend as I have a big job on Monday.

Has anyone done this? Will a stick welder do the job? Can anyone tell me what sort of steel it is? Specifically I want to put some more body on the anvil then grind it to a 90 degree angle.

Obviously I can't afford any risk of the weld breaking off and going into the disk area. However, it's in the manual. Is it safe?

I welded an anvil one time. If I had a surface grinder and a milling machine to finish the job it would be worth it. A stick welder with a good lo-hy rod will work fine. Anvils are cheap, buy a second one while you fool around with the worn one.
