Leave it to me. I should'a known better than to think I could...
Okay. So here's what I did. I took some of your advice and modded the muffler on my saw. Brand new. Five, maybe 6 tanks of gas through it. I drilled a couple of holes, replaced the muffler and went to adjust the carb. I took the bar & chain off for safety's sake, warmed up my saw, bought a good quality screwdriver and proceeded to open it up "full chat,"as one gentlman said, and tried to slowly turn the H-screw until I could get it to change pitch ever so slightly. No such luck.
I never managed to get the darn screw to turn. It seemed too stiff. So here I was, with a wide open throttle, trying to turn the H-screw and the machine, in a matter of about a second, goes from full-tilt-boogie to full-dead-stop.
It started once again a couple of seconds later, but same story. Full-Stop.
Now, when I pull it, everything *feels* okay on the starter rope, but nothin' doin.' No go. Zip. Zilch. Nothing but a dreadful sinking feeling.
I thought RPMs were limited by factory settings to 14000 or so....did I overdo it? How? By taking the bar/chain off for safety? When I had the saw's throttle up, it didn't sound higher than normal.Did I just cause my new saw to seize?
Just how screwed am I? I can tell you all now, this do-it-yourself sort of stuff might not be for me seeing that I just ruined a new saw. I think I'll pay someone who's grown up playing with these things from now on to adjust my carb.
God, I'm mad at myself for thinking I could do something simple by myself. I'm so mad I could just spit.
