I want to get a 70cc saw. I think I want a 046 or a MS460. What are the differences between a 044 and a 046? How can I tell them apart if the decal on the handle is missing that says what the CC of the saw is?
The difference in power is the reason I want a 046.70.7 vs 76.5 cc's and 5.4 vs.6.1 h.p.
I rarely cut anything over 24" so that could be a genuine difference and plus for the 046/460.10mm 044 will run with most 046 with shorter bars. 28-32" the 46 will pull away.
From what I have found the earlier 046 with the D shaped combustion chamber was a better performer than the later 046/ MS460 saws. I think they changed the cylinder around 2000.I have an 044 and a 460 my 044 is the stronger of the 2 saws. If I could find as many 044s as I can 460s I would run the 044s. The numbers show the 460 as the superior in the HP category but the numbers are just that numbers real world makes a big difference. I am sure others will agree. Moral of the story is don't be stuck on the numbers.
