I used to think there was no reason to run a modded saw till last year. I used to just do a muffler mod and was happy. Then there was the spring gtg 2006 in ohio and that changed my way of thinking.
So I was wondering what most of the guys and girls were running here on AS for saws. 100% Stock saws the way you get them from the dealer, Muffler modded with carb adjustments, Woods ported saws for fun and work. Lets hear it G&G's what you running and why.

I tear all of my saws down when I first get them and just true up the ports a little, then play with the muffler a little...It's not really a wild port job...So I guess you could say my saws are "super stock"....I do not go all out and modify them just because they get run hard every day,so I don't want to cut down on durability

346xpg muffler and carb(wings) 13800rpm
357xpg muffler and carb(wings) 13500rpm
372xpg muffler and carb(wings) 13100rpm

the 346 was the first to get a modded muffler ordered it from walkers the other mufflers i made myself :)

Good story

Must have been fate for this guy and the saw, I just read this at another place.

(((((((----Just yesterday I posted that first saw thread.. First real saw anyway.
I will try to make this short. Anyway I took a couple people's advise and
didnt spend 500 dollars on a 390. Which I think is probably a nice saw. I was
set on a Ms 310 because of budget. And that was stretching it this time of
year. And I figured I would never justifly the price of the ms361. So I closed
my cataloge and decieded to get the 310. Today the boss wanted me to go
to FT. Wayne Ind.. with him to bid a job.. We stoped at a tool store..I think it
was called MSI. I was getting bored and seen the stihl chainsaws.. They had
the shelf chucked full of farm bosses. There was a lonley ms361 in the mix.
I know the price 589 with a 18in bar by heart.. But no price on the saw. So out
of boredom now I asked the clerk the price. He said they didnt carry 361's there.
He was amazed when he seen it.. And said """""350 dollars like the rest"""""
So I was on that. Warranty the whole deal was 368 out the door.. My God..
My mouth was dry for twenty miles down the road. Had to slap my self ... I still
cant believe it.. Cant wait for this weekend... Thanks fella's with out this place. I
would have never been intersted in that particular saw.. hehehe.. No you cant have it..
hehehe. First time I have ever got run over with a deal like that.
The salesman knew it was a different saw and 2 other guys behind the counter didnt care either.
Must have been fate!

I usually run a different saw each day. Here is what I choose from;
Husky 246-muffler mod
Husky 246-woods port
Stihl 260--woods port
Dolmar 5100-muffler mod
Dolmar 5100-woods port
Stihl 361-muffler mod
Stihl 361-woods port
Dolmar 116-muffler mod
Husky 394-woods port.

I need either fewer saws or more days in the week.

Woods "Super" Ported 440 w/460BB top end
Muffler modded 440
Muffler modded 200T
Stock----a lot of differnet brands/classes.

Just a modded muffler on the 361.
Thats plenty for what I cut.

Homeowner usage and helping others out

For the small limbing up in trees.
Poulan 2000 TH stock
Poulan 1800 TH stock

For small stuff
4- Partner 5000 plus stock muffler mod
Partner 500 stock muffler mod
Loaner saw Craftsman/Poulan 2250 stock muffler mod

When needing alittle more power
Partner 5000 plus woods ported
Husky 357 woods ported

For the really tough and big stuff
Makita/Dolmar 7900 woods ported
Stihl 066 woods ported
Stihl 084 woods ported

I use an old Husky 254xp with the muffler modded

Brand new 2171 that hasn't even finished opening up yet ;)

old Jonsy 710 (?) which I would love to mod by removing about 15 pounds of metal to get it down to 25 pounds

Jonsy 2152 that was woods modded by Dozer Dan, so you tell me what category that might fall in

Box stock Dolmar 120si. Just bought a second 120si powerhead and one of them is going to Dave Nieger for a woods port...then probably the other one will go at a later date.DN himself said the 120si was probably one of the best kept secret saws of the chainsaw industry.

Every thing I run has a muffler mod and carb adjust for maximum output without going to the point of diminishing return. If knew more about porting the exhaust port I would probably do that too because I hate not tapping into all the potential power on an engine.

Between the garage and basment the saws are as follows

026 , one cutoff head jug, and one just ported with pipe

260, alky with pipe

026 stock

359 ported pipe also

3.71 craftsman project saw

365 with 372 and 372 bb jugs + pipes

Nitrous Wildthing

066 with ported jug and ported bb jugs + pipes

Some non runers as well, old john deer and alan bradley

Want to add a 120 plus cc to the mix.

Stock, right out of the box.

I'd like some factory mufflers from across the pond (Mega Non EPA) but thats only as a curiosity piece. I realize I could buy modded mufflers in the states but Im not big on them.

Itchwarrior, I dont think your activator is stock! Regardless if she is stock or not I would not my trying one just for curiosity
