I have never seen a tree complain about the saw kerf......have you?
You are not milling with a 026 so I guess I am not sure why kerf is an issue.
What bar to convert an 026 to 3/8LP?

You are not milling with a 026 so I guess I am not sure why kerf is an issue.
Thin kerf is for power saving (your saw not the wood). This means you have more power available for chain speed or bar length and it's easier on the power head. I bet LP is about half the kerf of regular 3/8. Less wasted power.
Some folks just dont have all the saws for every occasion 
. So who cares if you only run 3/8. Blah blah blah 
Folks want to try new stuff good. Thats how folks learn and not live under a rock.
1/4" full and micro, 3/8LP, .325, 3/8, 404 all very common today. If you own saws for different jobs at hand.
1/4" mini micro for those nice pruning cuts on those 5lb 25cc saws. Talk about a thin clean kerf.
Only way you going to learn is test stuff for yourself.

A good 026 will pull 3/8............your mileage may vary

Others like to waste money.
I hear ya. That's actually part of why I like the LP. I should be able run it on any saw I use regularly. It cuts fast. Like you, I prefer to use only one spool vs 325 here, 3/8 there, LP on the small saws. After using it on an ms250, I believe I may switch my 026 over. It cuts nice.

I like the 3/8lp more on my ported 026 but more than anything it's the weight saving the bar and chain are super light I just wish I had it with a 24in bar for that saw.
also stihls 63ps 3/8lp chain will handle anything you throw at it power wise, I ran it my my ms660 one or twice and it didn't come apart.

I switched a 024 ( 026 jr ) to a 16" 3/8 standard. It did pretty well fully buried in a pine log leveraging it pretty hard test cutting. I still think a 18" 3/8lp setup would have been the best choice to free up power and increase cutting speed. I agreed with the guy I built the saw for that it is much easier to push wedges into wider kerfs.
Cant run full size 3/8 on the 25cc 35cc 40cc-50cc here. So no keeping things simple isnt a option when you own a bunch of different saws for different jobs.

So not a waste of money by a long shot. Lets see ya put full 3/8 on 35cc 25cc and see what happens.

Boy I would love to see that 43cc pulling FULL size 3/8.
Only saw I had in 45cc was 346 that was ported with 357 carb etc that could pull FULL 3/8 like a boss.
Stock heck no with 45cc and full 3/8.

Had several of those homelite 150. I pass and give them away or part out.
Get out your sun dial while you cut. Good lord pass.
45cc with 3/8 testing off reel stock chain.
Stock it would suk with 3/8 too but maybe not 150 slow.
