Going to get up off the wallet and buy a new climbing line. Had the arbormaster (16 strand) and it seemed to always coil up on the downward. Is the 12 strand better for this not happening? Or what about the Kernmantle or Double braid? I am thinking of the Samson Kernmantle 7/16 which has a higher strength rating than the arbormaster but I am curious on the twisting effect on decent. Any comments would greatly appreciated!

The Sherril catalog has a great chart which allows you to compare all the climb lines that they carry.

My current lines are NE Tachyon (called Lava in Sherril's colors) and Yale Blaze. Love them. See no reason to go back to a heavy 1/2 inch line. Work better with ascenders as well.

Samson's kernmantle climb line is Velocity, also good, but rated about 6000 lb, way less than AM. You may be thinking of one of the static lines, which are too stiff for day to day DbRT climbing. they are great for use with mechanical ascenders or for speedlining. Hard to knot as well.

Thanks RB! Will check those lines out. By way what is the diff between the Kernmantle and the double braids when it comes to performance?

I've said it in about 20 posts already. Lava is the way to fly. Was at a climbing competition about a month ago and probably 1/3 of the guys were using it. Expensive but worth the money. Blaze by the way is way to sttttrrrreeeetcccchhhy

Loving my new hank of poison ivy. First 7/16" line, the weight savings is nice, and it knots so beautifully. Very pleased, just wish I had gone with a 150' instead of 120' is all!

I am also well pleased with my Poison (mine is Hy-vy, 200 feet) but I climbed on a freinds HTP not long ago and i think my next 200 feet will be HTP. I've gone pretty exclusively to SRT for the long ascents and I really felt the difference between the 1.8% stretch on the Hy-vy and the 0.63% on the HTP. The HTP is a good bit stiffer and therefor a little harder to tie, and you can't bring up the tail and use it for a Blakes for a double crotch, but Oh Man! It feels like steel cable when you put your weight on it. May not make much difference on short climbs but when you pay out the whole 200 feet to get to your target crotch and back down to the ground for a tie off you can really feel it.

I'm not sure yet, but I suspect the HTP will also be a little more abrasion resistant. I'm not as careful to use a cambium saver as I should be and the Hy-vy is picking pretty badly, worse I think than my Blue Streak. The HTP feels like the cover is a little tougher, maybe just because it is stiffer.

Think I'll stay with the Hy-vy for DdRT though. Looks like I'll wear out the Poison Hy-vy in the middle and wind up cutting it into shorter links for DdRT.

I got the red/black/white and honestly I can't tell you if it got better or not cuz it got used as a bullrope. The colour pigments thing sounds kinda wierd but anything can happen especially in tree work. I have been thinking about the lava, Yale XTC, or Buzzz line. Anyone got a Buzzz!

i have a 11m length of yale xtc and its nearly as heavy as my 30m long arbormaster

I hate to pick fights, but Velocity is double braid, not kernmantle. The cover is so tight it seems like kernmantle, but it isn't.

We have it; it's a pretty nice climbing line. Tough, lite. A bit stiff in knots.

I have been climbing on XTC Fire and its ok but i just bought some of that new arbormaster bigfoot from wesspur. The only thing that makes it new is the color. Its supposed to be low stretch. 2% @ WLL. I'll try it. Its gotta be better than the one I am using now.

You seen the new 11mm climbing lines Ricky?
That's my next rope purchase.

I'm using 11mm Poison Ivy. I'm on my second year with it but it's been well taken care of. It does milk though. Can't say I've never natural crotched with it but it's mostly only been used with a friction saver. I think I'll give the Lava a go for my next climbing line. It's not supposed to milk.
