i have a ms260, a 440 mag, and an 066
16"...................20"......................and 28"
i just put a 20" on my 260, all three saws have modified mufflers and power to spare.................so, shoud i put the 28" on the 440 and go bigger on the 066? help me , i'm an obsessive compulsive
FISH!!! WHERE"S FISH????? i trust no other!! guff

My wife keeps reassuring me with a smirk on her face, that
size is unimportant, but she keeps giggling, and murmuring
something about Johnbert and Dougcock, or something like
that....

well do tell guff.:) bar envy is an almost universal condition no matter how long a bar, a fella is running.
now to this 026. u say it ll pull the 20 inch bar . but does it really pull it rite ,as in powering on thru hardwood. or do u half to wait on it to catch up. the reason im asking is ,i have decided to not modify my 036. but am considering the 028.if i did ,id probably just let dan evaluate the saw, then if no problems ,and the projected improvement is good ,get him to modify it.
this when enough play money is available,as its certainly not an necessary fix. just a possible want to thing.well ,in reading my post,i hope u had at least one cup, before u read it.since i havnt yet. ill go ahead and post it.:)

20" on the 026 is about max, but will work fine if your 026 is running strong and you keep the chain sharp. The 044 will pull the 28" just fine.

Y'know, I do not understand why most here buy a saw and then try to figure out what size bar to run. Seems backwards to me. It seems like the logical progression would be to start with the work that needs to be done. Decide which size bars you need to accomplish the task, then buy the appropriate size saw to pull the size bar required for the job. Many here approach it backwards, buying the big saw first and then put a tiny bar on it and THEN saying "Lemmie go find some wood I can cut with my badazz saw and tiny bar!!!".

A 066 Mag anything shorter than a 32 is a waste I run a 28 on my 46 Mag and a 20 on my 26 a older 44 would be pushing its limits with a 28.

The saw shop where I bought my saws from the 26 and 46 come standard with 20 and 28" bars its what the guys want so thats what they are sold with.

shorter than 32'' on 066,a waste?

I run a 25 '' bar on mine most of the time because it is easier to handle, why carry 32" if your not going to use all of it. I call it a waste to carry extra bar length if it is not needed.
