Thought I'd add to the thread - I got a bit of firewood blocking done when I got home, so hopefully it will start drying during this really dry, sunny, windy next few days we're supposed to be having.

More work for the little 238se:

Today's work was the unsplit rounds:

I had my helpers there, too. They come and watch, and then police the wood pile and garage for mice. They also climb in/on our cars, get on our roof and tease our dogs, and steal your lunch if you leave it unattended for even a minute.

DON'T talk to me about MICE!!!

I just wasted three days trying to get my irrigation pump working... The experts kept telling me had a leak in my pipes, bad foot valve etc etc,... Turned out to be a frigging mouse nest the got sucked into the pump from the new poly tubing I just bought... Where was my useless 20.2 year old cat when I need her? (sleeping)

Good thing you found the problem before spending a fortune redoing everything!

As for the cats, they're actually my neighbor's but they are kind enough to hang out in my yard much of the time. They don't bother the birds or squirrels, they tolerate our dogs, and they have done a pretty good job on the mice. I've only seen one mouse in the past year and a half that I have not been puting D-Con out.

lucky bistard

you just have to flaunt that 238 around, man that looks like a nice little saw. what I don't get is how come you cut some of that firewood so short?

Not much as of late.

Been on vacation...

Got a 3/8 rim and bar for my Husky 353, Im in the process of swapping it out...

Then I will have something to talk about.

I want to gear up and go cut some wood here soon, we will see.

I nearly hauled the entire contraption out of the lake to inspect the foot valve... Yesterday (in desperation) I swam out and dived on it to make sure it wasn't upside down in the mud... Oh well... If I ever do it again I'll flush the tubing first...

With all the wind and thunderstorms around here I finally decided to get rid of the big dead basswood that is right next to where I park my truck. I was putting the notch in and the Stihl was bogging a little and couldn't understand why that would happen in a basswood. Well, when I got the notch out and all the rotten pulp in the middle ran out I could see why. Puckerrooney time! I had one very rotten tree close enough to my house to hit it. All went well, I slowed way down and dropped it right where I wanted. Found out after it was down that it was rotten about 8 feet up, everything else was fine. I made rounds for the kids to burn up in the fire pit with the good stuff.

I ran the Stihl out of gas and grabbed the lowly Poulan (trying to get rid of all my old gas and mix up a new batch). I had been having troubles with it (discussed on another thread) and had eyeballed the rakers-well I got my gauge from Bailey's. That Troll was right, my eyeball wasn't as accurate as I though. I had taken two full strokes off of each one and once I tried the gauge I found out I wasn't even down to .025 yet. I took em down to .030 and had at it. Wow-that little saw can cut, I was really surprised. Have to watch the chain oil on that one, the tank is very small and it runs out just about the same time as the gas I realized in the nick of time.

I have been busy this past week getting my first son, what an adventure the coolest thing ever, and yes that includes buying chainsaws :)

Never mind the wood cutting,,,, GO GET SOME SLEEP!!

I made it out this past weekend for the first firewood gathering trip of the year. Brought down a few standing-dead lodgepole pine. Cut them into 10 ft. sections to fit the trailer. It was extremely hot and is expected to stay that way....

Great day

11-Jul Sharpen chain, clean bar rails, turn up oiler, air filter, etc
12-Jul Chaps, hard hat, gloves glasses, boots, ears...all on. Fire up saw and start cutting the red oak like butter. Hit big spike in red oak. Oh well, it was almost the last cut to make anyway. Load up trailer. 7x8x2 utility trailer full, about 4000#. Pull trailer up out of woods with Jeep liberty. 4x4 low works great for this. Trailer is pulling great until the tire gets a nail in it. I-93 going into Salem, NH at rush hour is no place to change the tire, and I had just passed the rest area!DOH!. Get home, unload all the wood, change the tire. Wife gets home, give her a great big kiss. She asks how my day was...."absolutely great" I reply with a big smile. "Let's go to Dinner".

Yup, was a great day!

Went through much the same. Put my irrigation pump in the creek several lyears ago and fired it up. Couple standpipes = no water. Pulled the faucets to find chunks of mouse in them. I don't think it went through the pump, just well mashed from 50psi and squeezing through pipe. What a mess.

Temps going over a hundred today so my plan is to bench the two saws and give them a good cleanup.

Then veg out in the house and maybe tackle the digital camera to see if I can finally get it to download some pics to the 'puter.

I have not done much the last few day's as it is hot as hell here +35c, at least my wood pile is drying! Plus I burned the tops of both of my hands second degree burns with a deep frying accident I feel like such a dumb ass!
But I did get a package from Bailey's today:hmm3grin2orange: Looks like when I go to get the dressing changed on my hands they will say looks like you were busy as they are always dirty! Surprisingly it does not hurt any more. I want to lengthen the tongue on my firewood trailer but Right now I don't feel like welding.

hit 100 in the foothills- too hot to cut in full gear.

that said it is supposed to be in the low 90s this weekend. I have two guys coming over to cut wood for me in exchange for a cord or so of the oak that they cut.
I get to use my new to me granberg rotary sharpener tomorrow morning on the 372. Also going to try out the 357 with the 24" bar first and then switch to the 20 to see how fast it cuts. :chainsawguy:

Toppin' out some overgrown trees last few days at work. Hate doing that. Much rather be working at the bottom. :chainsawguy: (job would go quicker too! :D )

Not much, but...

I finally got a 225mm chisel blade & limit stop for our FS360, and cleared off approx 1/2 acre of understory . Best kill was approx 3-4" poplar. TIMBER!!! Also limbered up the baby Husky to buck up the larger victims & fell/buck some smaller standing & down dead trees.

My clearing-saw technique is probably pretty bad (and it's a good thing these allow a lot of room between the blade and my legs, or I'd be shinless like Hank Hill's dad) but I'm getting better. The muffler-modded 360 has all kinds of torque... get the chomper whirling and the little 1" and less stuff just falls over from fright. It seems to be fairly thirsty though -maybe 30-40 min per tankful- but that allows frequent breaks to haul & pile the brush, grab a smoke, touch up the blade, & rehydrate before fueling up.

Once I get some more junk cleared, piled & burnt, I'll have more escape room to start felling some bigger trees.
