Minor brush clearing, and splitting firewood, ground 2 stumps today with the 357 Dosko.

A nice big oak and pines were on the wood pile this week so ran the 1970 Mac-10 in some nice oak, a lot of which was 2 to 4ft diam. 20" bar. Starts real easy, seems to run fine but really bogging down easily in the cut, and painfully slow to boot for some reason I don't really care to find out. Burned a hole in my chaps with its crazy muffler. It's ran dry and going to rest in the rafters for a while, (the $5 saw) Said thank God for Modern Saws and put the same chain loop, not sharpened, on the 357xp and it blazed through this same wood with a 20" just fine, cut all sorts of rounds, plenty of cookies for fun, a full little load for me, nice 14" green oak. 20" pine ripped for campfire wood, Just after work at the wood pile with one tank of gas. I need to go start a fire out back, start burning of the excess:blob2:

you just have to flaunt that 238 around, man that looks like a nice little saw. what I don't get is how come you cut some of that firewood so short?

Yeah, I like that little saw. I've got a neat 154 that should be rebuilt by this time next week, too.

As for the firewood, I aim for 16" but since I'm hand-splitting I work around the knots, so some pieces end up being longer or shorter. I currently burn in a fireplace and I can fit up to 24", but I'm cutting shorter since I'm kinda anticipating the possibility of putting a stove in this year, and it'll be a smaller one sitting half-inside the fireplace itself, where 16" is probably going to be a max log size.

rebuilt my 066 today with a BB kit from Baileys, made up 4-24" chains out of the 100' real of 30XC. dressed up some bars, just another sunday
:chainsawguy:

sILlogger, are the 066/660 BB kits better than the 046/460 kits that SO many are disappointed with?

I worked over a 680 Shindaiwa for my dad. Took some pictures of a few saws I plan on selling. Too hot to do much else.

Some days you just can't play with saws

I spent most of the day with my wife's best friend... Neighbors dog... 2 week ago this dog could run a mile behind the bike, swim 3/4 of a mile behind the canoe, and still want to play. Been doing this with us (or a variation thereof) every day for 3 years. Tomorrow is his last day, if he makes it though the night. Lymphoma... 8 years old.. Sucks.... RIP Winston... you were the best friend ever.

I finally got my Husky 353 swapped to 3/8th pitch.

I cut with it a bit, it runs nice (16" bar) and I think Im really going to like it. I might invest in a spinner and breaker and some chain now that I can run strictly 3/8th chain.

Get a new pup. My kids persuaded me this weekend to take a 'FREE' black/yellow lab home.
I had forgotten how much fun and work a new puppy is.

it was finally under 90 degrees yesterday so got all the chainsaws out.
Took my new to me 257 and ran it through a couple of logs. Tune was WAYYYY off. Idle screw was 6 turns out! Idle jet was like 1.75 out - ran much better at 1.25 turns out. Thanks to the instructions here on the website got it tuned right to the edge of the 4 stroke burble.

However,it still bogged down in any oak over 4". chain was sharp and pitching out curls. Just didn't have the power it should have. need to check the compression next on that one. has new plug also.
Pulled out my rancher with the 20" bar and went to town. The rancher had more power in the cut than the 257 and wouldn't bog under I hit 18" plus oak with my pushing on the bar. I tried to mess with High Jet and it made no difference to the stops on the screws. Need to do the muffler mod to this one.
Once we have all the small stuff cleared away that means we need to get out the 372 and really have fun. I swear every time I run this saw I have a grin. with a sharp chain it just moves through wood!
really need to get a 24" bar for the big wood piles that I have.

I had a similar problem on an Echo blower down at work. It would loose power anything above half throttle. Adjustments from stop to stop did no good. So I started to figure I might have a fuel line blockage or it's time to put in a carb rebuild kit. But, before trying that, decided to cut the limit cap ears off and see what happens, added a half turn of rich to the HS, and low and behold, new life.

Good ol' EPA. I guess that's there idea of pollution control, since a motor not running, isn't polluting.

That brings back strong memories of our noble companion Monk. Had to have him put down a while ago, but I still miss his unfaltering companionship.

He was part of the family for sure.

I am sorry to hear about your neighbor's dog, as I met him the times I was out there.

In time there will be a special place inside you where he lives...

Milled the lower section of the Cedar I took down a while back for this mornings entertainment.
8'6" long log. Giving the friend couple slabs they are thrilled. Love the smell of that Cedar mmm

Iam really sad to hear something like that as I type away on this computer looking over at the ''hound'' sound asleep dreaming of hunting season! They truly are man's best friend! Sorry for you loss.

Cut some firewood today and tested out my muffler mod on the 460. 7600ft. and the saw ran noticably stronger than it did stock at 5000ft. It was nice to get a break from the heat while I was working - only 65 degrees up in the mountains.
