What is a nice, cozy small foresty town in Eastern Oregon?

La grande is not horrible, enterprise and heppner might be a little too small... unitys just as small but they do or used to have a liquor store and a tavern. Dads getting ready to go look in south east OR. Someplace to dig a big hole to live in just in case these politicians and moguls get carried away during their next meeting at the bohemian grove or bilderberg..

Not much out there east of the Cascades that you are looking for, really. Bend was trendy as all heck until the great recession. There is more money there than in Eugene. My nephew put in a new kitchen for Drew Bledsoe in his house there for $125,000. Just for a kitchen! Sisters is a nice small town west of Redmond that I would check out. Pendleton or La Grande might not be too bad a choice as they are on I-84. K-Falls is imploding from the dams being taken out (no water for farming).

In the west Willamette Valley; Valsetz is long gone, and the road is closed to it now because the bridge on the other side of what was town is closed (rotting out). Dallas would be a reasonable small town out that way though. West of Salem, has a nice small town feel to it. Monroe is also nice, farther south. Not much money in Dallas or Monroe though. Ashland would be another choice, money and tourists there, and on I-5. Still has a small(er) town feel to it and there is money there. Hood River is similar, but housing is expensive as all heck up there.

South of the Oregon border? There ain't much in Happy Camp, or Ft. Jones for that matter. You would have to go to someplace like Chico or up to Susanville, Tahoe City, Auburn, Placerville, Angels Camp or Sonora in the Sierras. Or Ft Bragg or Mendocino on the coast. Farther south in wine country gets expensive in a hurry. My favorite places there are Sonoma and Healdsburg.
